Top 3 Video Game Characters Who Have The Worst Jobs

No Paycheck Is Worth This…

You have to feel sorry for certain characters in gaming. Whether they be protagonists, the big bad or just some random NPCs, barely any of them are dealt a good hand. More often than not, it’s actually their profession that serves as the catalyst for their terrible circumstances later down the line. After all, how many Average Joes working security details have been gunned down just because they were standing in the way of our objective?

Disregarding their respective narratives for a moment, it’s clear that these three specific characters should really hand in their notice and get the hell out of dodge, because these careers truly are the stuff of nightmares!

Fair warning, there are SPOILERS AHEAD!

#3: The Immigration Officer
“Papers, Please” (2013)

We get that in order to support a large family that beggars can’t be choosers, but after a few days working at the border of Arstotzka, we soon realised that the risk really isn’t worth the reward. Not only do we have to hear all these heartbreaking stories from immigrants who want to start better lives for themselves, but we also have to shoot some if they get over the barrier. Not to mention the fact that we somehow end up getting roped into a resistance movements, which ends up catching the attention of some rather sadistic superiors. We’ll take an office job instead, thanks.

#2: The Night Guard
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” series (2014-17)

Surely upon discovering that your new place of work is haunted by killer animatronics, one night is all you need to make up your mind that you should leave ASAP. Aside from the salary being next to nothing, the constant threat of being captured and forcibly stuffed into a razor-wired plush suit would push most people to leave. Kudos to the night guard for coming back again and again, but you have to wonder if it was all worth it given how if he survives he gets fired anyway…

#1: Isaac Clarke
“Dead Space” series (2008-13)

Granted, the only time he really showed up to do some engineering was in the first game, but that’s all it took to land him in the ultimate horror show. After encountering the Marker and the Necromorphs, Isaac finds himself in one bloody skirmish after another. He’s forced to fight for his life at every turn, and yet somehow seems to be the only one who has to go out there and fix every little broken thing while the rest of the crew just get to huddle down. If he had only gone for the arts, then perhaps he wouldn’t have ended up as one of the unluckiest characters in video games!
