Top 10 Best International Taskmaster Moments you've Never Seen
Taskmaster,Top 10 Best International Taskmaster Moments You’ve Never Seen
Welcome to WatchMojoUK, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most delightful, underseen moments from international versions of “Taskmaster.”
#10: Cate Blanchett on “Taskmaster”?!
The “Taskmaster” franchise is nothing if not built on star power. But with this unbelievable cameo, Rhys Nicholson decides to shoot for the moon. Tasked with finding ‘the most heavenly speaking voice,’ other cast members try their best. I mean, a visit from Little Alex Horne is pretty cool in its own right. An appearance from the illustrious Cate Blanchett, though? That’s simply next-level. She instantly becomes the biggest A-lister to ever appear in the franchise. And the clip itself is a hoot! She gives the most regal of recitals, while not neglecting to toss in a punchline. It’s an unreal moment, as though Galadriel herself were dropped into a panel show. And it’s no wonder why Rhys is so elated with themself!
#9: Nina’s Snap, Crackle, & Pop!
Nina Oyama fills a classic show archetype on the inaugural season of “Taskmaster Australia.” She has iconic failures that make her a beloved contestant. But it’s her performance in this task that might convey the role best. The cast is challenged to make the most satisfying set of noises: a snap, a crackle, and a pop. What’s most important, though, is that only their first attempts count. Everyone manages a good try: from Luke’s musical loophole, to Julia’s clever snap, and Jimmy’s colossal pop. But then comes Nina. She completely forgets the one rule, running amok with countless attempts. As a result, we only hear her most lackluster noises. Meanwhile, her far better sounds are bleeped out, much to the delight of everyone watching.
#8: Leigh’s Powerful Cocktail
Paul Williams is a sensational Taskmaster’s Assistant. His spin on the role balances cold, peculiar, and lovable all at once. Not to mention, he has music skills to boot! He provides an instant foil for any contestant that comes his way. This is perfectly captured by what the rough-and-tumble Leigh Hart does in this messy venture. Kitchen tasks are always ripe with bonkers ideas and even more ridiculous execution. They’re prime real estate for a carefree daredevil like Leigh. So when mixing a cocktail for Paul, he naturally decides to serve it through a blasting leaf-blower. It’s a moment that feels Alex Horne-coded, but with its own fresh twist.
#7: Abby & Tofiga’s Rooftop Madness
Hidden tasks and hidden solutions are as essential to “Taskmaster” as eggs and rubber ducks. But this cheeky trick is a doozy. Contestants are told to ‘complete all tasks on the roof’ while the study’s ceiling is overrun with them. Can you see where this is going? Because three of the cast members didn’t! One of them, Abby Howells, has an especially side-splitting attempt. First, she gets painfully close to doing the actual task: giving Paul a high-five. On top of that, she’s the lone player to finish every brief on the ceiling. And finally, she has a (very understandable) breakdown when discovering the truth. As the perfect comparison, Tofiga Fepulea'i spots the wordplay immediately. And yet, in his classic ‘unbothered’ fashion, he still takes ten minutes.
#6: Aaron’s Near-genius Shed Lock
It’s an easy task to understand: hide the traffic cones (also called witches’ hats in Australia). Rhys Nicholson makes it look easy! They’re able to hide eight of the ten cones from Tom Cashman. But the whimsical, dry, and endearing Aaron Chen is impossible to predict. And that fact is illustrated by this roller-coaster of an attempt. It starts off with incredible potential, as Aaron is able to seal the Assistant in the shed. But his hubris quickly becomes a tragic downfall. His cones barely hidden, Aaron can only watch as the lock is broken and his dreams are dashed. With nothing left, he resorts to heckling and taunting Cashman in hilarious fashion.
#5: Angella & Brynley’s Outlandish Costumes
In-studio reveals are always a welcome surprise in the world of “Taskmaster.” And that’s why this challenge is an instant home run. Asked to wear ‘outlandish costumes’ concealed under their outfits, two competitors pull no punches. Angella Dravid, the awkward and deadpan superstar of the season, plays off of her persona. Her costume as a ‘unicorn rug’ is decidedly loud and far from her usual reservedness. Meanwhile, Brynley Stent is consistent and competitive, with just the right amount of unhinged. Her cosplay as Gollum reflects her utter commitment to the bit. She even roleplays her wig to make sure it doesn’t give anything away. And as a cherry on top, Leigh Hart also joins the party in the most Leigh Hart way possible.
#4: Danielle Cracks the Code
Unlike the often stoic Paul Williams, Tom Cashman can’t seem to keep a straight face. And nothing breaks him as much as Danielle Walker does in this epic saga. Facing a trail of 26 roses to collect, competitors must deduce a password for each. What’s the trick? The passwords can be anything, they just each need to start with a unique letter of the alphabet. Well, what begins as a silly game becomes a trial of will, endurance, and sheer mental fortitude. Danielle and Cashman are pushed to the edge as she takes 503 guesses over almost two hours. Despite heavy hints and excruciating moments of near-eureka, everyone involved is left in tears. And honestly? We can’t help but join them!
#3: Jenny, Duck, Goose
In a logic puzzle so contrived that Alex Horne would be proud, comes this gem by Jenny Tian. Competitors are asked to find ‘the goose’ amongst ducks with strict rules and one guess. After quick, correct answers from fellow contestants, Jenny goes into a tailspin. She spends nearly a whopping 90 minutes tangled in a web of notes before getting it wrong. This attempt fascinates Tom Cashman and the entire studio. But things don’t stop there. Later in the episode, a new task is set and a chance at redemption is born. Jenny’s return to the fowl arena is edited like a triumphant sports film. That is, until…she gets it wrong again. Luckily, what she lacks in points, she makes up in being a fan-favorite.
#2: Chris & Justine Recite Pi
Sometimes, a simple task is all we need. But reciting pi from memory would be too simple, right? Thankfully, Chris Parker and Justine Smith still make it great television. After reasonable tries from the other competitors, chaos starts to snowball. First, Justine makes the fatal mistake of thinking the task is even simpler. She spends her entire ten minute prep time just reading the numbers out to a bemused Paul Williams! Her resulting, immediate failure is priceless. And yet, Chris somehow ups the ante. To help his memory, he crafts a handy (and effective!) mnemonic. But he gets so tense that he forgets to say the very first digit. It’s a heartbreaking but undeniably riotous moment. And he tops it off with a much deserved crashout.
#1: Laura, David, and Guy’s Diss Track
The second season of “Taskmaster New Zealand” features a team of three all-time great panelists. Laura Daniel, Guy Montgomery, and David Correos could fill out a list of iconic moments all by themselves. But this fiery composition is their magnum opus. Both teams are tasked with writing and performing a diss track about the other. Urzila Carlson and Matt Heath’s attempt is hilarious in its own right. But nothing could prepare us for the trio. From rehearsal to final product, David’s intensity is phenomenal. His bars leave the room in frightened yet delighted awe. Meanwhile, the track is peppered with Guy’s clever riffs. And Laura’s verses and vocals tie everything together. It’s truly a “Taskmaster” classic, from any shore.
