Deicide Has Never Been So Much Fun
When it comes to slaying the denizens of Mount Olympus, none are more skilled than this now legendary Spartan. Ever since he stepped onto our screens back in 2005, Kratos has proceeded to decimate every major player from Greek mythology in the bloodiest of ways, all in the name of vengeance. As you can imagine, he quickly became a household name and one of the most violent characters in video game history. Over the course of the original trilogy as well as various spin-offs, he demonstrated how not even the most hellish of beasts could hope to overcome his rage.
However, with the release of his latest epic, it seems that the God of War has evolved beyond his revenge, grown a beard and got himself a son. In celebration, we’re looking back at the epic boss fights that came to define the series!
#3: Colossus of Rhodes
God of War 2 obviously wanted to start things off with a bang, while also reminding fans just how much of a beast Kratos is. After this wonder of the world to life is brought to life by Zeus and sent on a rampage, players had to chase it down while trying to avoid getting punched into oblivion. The game pretty much solidified it was going to be a hit the moment when Kratos catapulted himself onto the colossus and tore out its eye. Now that’s how you set the tone for a sequel.
#2: The Hydra
Talk about throwing players into the deep end. The very first boss battle of the entire franchise, Kratos had to take on this undersea behemoth atop of a shattered ship, where the only thing he could do was slash like hell. The sight of impaling the creature’s head on the broken mast cemented Kratos as an undeniable badass, while also setting the stage for the medley of unholy violence that was to follow as he set his sights on taking down Ares.
#1: Cronus
Just when you thought the enemies in this game couldn’t possibly get any bigger, they give us boss who is essentially a living level. This infamous Titan dwarfs every other foe that Kratos has ever faced, leading players to have to work their way up his hulking frame while also tearing up whatever part of him they can get their blades on. The moment when our resident Spartan manages to finally bring down the father of the Gods is nothing short of mesmerising.
