Japanese students really don’t seem to have it easy, especially when it comes to the likes of horror games. Without fail they always appear as the sacrificial demographic for the villain to tear apart in the most graphic of ways. This was especially true for the cast of the original Corpse Party.

Those kids had a reeeeeally bad time.

Many of you will probably remember playing or at least watching the first instalment of this bloody series on Steam, and it has since had a few gory follow ups that tried to rewrite and mess around with its various continuities. They even tried bumping up the graphic content to absurd degrees.

Now, the game’s official sequel has been officially been rebooted and released in Japan, promising a lot more mature and gruesome features for hardcore fans.

According to an article on Anime News Network

Digital game distribution platform PLAYISM released the Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient Neues; game in Japan on Thursday. The game is a reboot of GrindHouse’s Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient game, and was originally slated for a July release.

The rebooted version features additions to the story, new images, and runs on the new “KENIX Engine NEUES” engine.

GrindHouse released the Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient game in 2013 on the PC as a sequel to Team GrisGris’ original Corpse Party games. The game was intended to be released episodically, with the story serialized in game episodes over time. However, GrindHouse only released the game’s first episode. The game has also inspired a drama CD.

The game’s story centers on Ayame Itō, a first year high school student who wakes up from a coma to find herself in a hospital she does not know, with monitoring equipment connected to her body. She realizes that she has lost all her memories. As she explores the hospital, she finds papers and plants strewn across the hospital floors, but she finds no one else. She then tries to find a way out of the hospital.

So if you enjoyed the first game but could never be bothered with all of the various remixes, sounds like it won’t be long before the true successor to Corpse Party makes its way stateside!
