Where the High School Musical Characters Would Be Today

Once a Wildcat always a Wildcat. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be answering the question, Where the High School Musical Characters Would Be Today.

Oh, that's right, we’ll be talking about what everyone’s favorite Wildcats have been up to since they graduated East High.

Let’s start with East High’s resident diva, Sharpay Evans. At the end of Senior Year, Sharpay decided to stay in Albuquerque to go to school and assist Mrs. Darbus with future East High musicals. Naturally, she was like a drill sergeant to all the new students she helped direct. But the most important thing she drilled into their heads was her motto, “we’re all in this together.” She performed in every musical she could throughout her college career and even did some community theater in her spare time. She even took the occasional minor role. She did eventually make it to Broadway in her own time, and when she did all of her old East High pals came to the opening night wearing t-shirts with her face on them, even though she was just one of the swings. Though it wasn’t exactly what she expected, Sharpay got even more than she could have ever imagined when she was trying to climb to the top in High School. Oh, and she’s still fabulous.

Sharpay and Ryan are still very close even though he went off to Julliard in New York with Kelsi. Having been overlooked in high school for years, Ryan and Kelsi shone bright at Julliard. They worked together on several productions throughout their time there. They never did end up becoming a couple after going to prom together, but became best friends, musical partners, and Julliard’s dynamic duo. They are now a Broadway dream team, and won matching Tonys for their debut. And now, they are currently working on their next big hit... which Sharpay is set to star in.

Having gone to Yale for college, Taylor made it down to Ryan and Kelsi’s shows as often as she could. She excelled in her political science major, then went on to her masters, and then her doctorate, not only graduating early, but with honors every time. She currently lives in New York, where she works in a research lab working on ways to reverse climate change. She has big plans to run for congress in the near future, and eventually... the presidency.

Taylor and Chad didn’t stay together after high school, but they kept in contact over the years, and always remained great friends. Having stayed in Albuquerque, Chad’s friendships waned a bit, as one might expect. But nobody could have expected that his friendship with Sharpay would have bloomed, least of all him. Being the only two out of the main group not to leave town for college, they became incredibly close friends in those four years. Chad was a star in high school, but had some trouble in college. He expected everything would be just as smooth as it always had been, but he started on his college basketball team coming off the bench. But after the humbling experience, he put in the work and was a starter the following season, and eventually made it to the NBA. Chad volunteers time with his old high school team whenever he can, and tries not to let the whole hometown hero thing go to his head. Though he has a lot of crazy stories in the NBA, his favorites to tell are from the college games he played against his best friend, Troy. Especially, the great laugh they shared after realizing they both still wear their Wildcat shorts under their uniforms every game.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Troy and Gabriella. The third installment of the films ended with Troy deciding to go to Berkley to study basketball and theater, and most importantly to be close to Gabriella. To make their relationship even more cavity inducingly sweet, they are that high school couple that actually made it. Upon getting to college, the plan was to meet up every weekend, but naturally, they found that to be harder than expected. With the demands of college, things definitely got tough at times, but they always managed to work it out.

Troy was in plenty of musicals throughout college and loved every second of it. The only feeling that could compare to singing on stage was the feeling he’d get on the basketball court. Though he’d be the first to admit that it felt a little weird singing without Gabriella. He always had a special place in his heart for those songs Kelsi wrote just for them. And though he sometimes missed sharing the court with Chad, it just made it feel all the more special when they played against each other. Their friendly rivalry was legend. He quickly became a star in both of his focuses, and his dad made the trip to see him star as the lead in the musical and win another championship in the same year.

Gabriella, always a step ahead, graduated from the Stamford law program a year early and immediately continued on to law school. She passed the Bar on the first try, and got offers from several prestigious law firms before she graduated, and started her career with a corporate firm, before deciding to start her own firm and do things her way. She, Taylor, and Kelsi made it a point to keep in touch over the years. They take turns traveling back and forth between California and New York for the occasional girl’s weekend. They even started inviting Sharpay along after Chad vouched for how much she’d grown since High School.

Troy and Gabriella are definitely still together and have kids who are triple threats: intelligent, athletic, and musically inclined. Being a couple that always breaks the status quo and plays against the stereotype, Gabriella is the one with the high powered career. After having a successful college basketball and theater career, Troy found a new dream and is a stay at home dad, who now coaches the high school basketball team and co directs the high school musical with Gabriella. They have a treehouse in their backyard even more epic than the one Troy had growing up, with a balcony and everything.

Though they have gone their separate ways, the Wildcats always make time to visit Albuquerque for holidays, big life events, and of course the East High Spring Musicale.
