Meet Hawaii's Big Island

Generally referred to as the Big Island, Hawaii’s main island is by far the largest of the Hawaiian Islands. Filled with natural marvels and historic locations, the Big Island is also the youngest Hawaiian island.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

The Big Island is home to the largest park in Hawaii: the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Within this park live two of the world’s most active volcanoes. Imagine hiking past the diverse scenery, viewing sulfur banks and the famous Halema’uma’u Crater.

Beautiful Scenery

The Hamakua Coast is the north-eastern coast of the island, and was once full of sugar plantations. As you drive along the coast, you’ll see tropical flora and beautiful vistas. You’ll also pass the World Botanical Gardens, which house the captivating Umauma Falls. A spectacular set of multi-tiered waterfalls, they cascade past unspoiled tropical forest. Another beautiful piece of scenery is Hakalau Bay. A beautiful spot, this beach is remarkable for its black sand beach.

Kahua Ranch

Also found on the Big Island, Kahua Ranch is a working ranch that allows visitors to experience the remarkable surrounding landscape through a variety of different activities. Try horseback riding or see the vistas on an ATV.

King's Trail

And, to experience the entire island, follow the historic King’s Trail. Running past the island’s ancient petroglyphs and also past a golf course at the modern Mauna Lani resort, this trail links the past with the present.
