Transformers Fall of Cybertron: Everything You Should Know

Space trucks, robot dinosaurs and civil war. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about “Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.”

Developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision, this is the highly anticipated sequel to 2010’s hit “War for Cybertron.” Picking up where that game left off, FOC focuses on the height of the worldwide conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, ultimately leading to their interplanetary exile.

As before, the primary source of inspiration is the original 1984 cartoon series, and its events are likewise considered official franchise canon.

As this game opens, Optimus Prime is shown leading his side against Megatron’s growing influence, and begins searching for a way off the planet, as the corruption of Cybertron’s core by dark energon has caused Cybertron to begin shutting down.

Once again playing both sides, the previous use of two separate campaigns has been tossed in favor of one large campaign featuring levels from both sides. Character selection is predetermined for each of the levels, in order for the gameplay to now take better advantage of specific character traits.

Playable transformers include mainstays like Optimus Prime, Jazz, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper and even Grimlock! As a unique animal-based character, Grimlock wields a short-range sword and shield, and can only transform through building up rage during combat. Think that’s exciting?... You also get to control Metroplex, a gigantic city sized transformer!

Meanwhile, Decepticon segments have you control their own secret weapon Bruticus, a towering over-powered combiner, as well as such characters as Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream.

Switching between shooter and vehicular driving game on the fly, players can wield two different weapons simultaneously, while special abilities have been reduced to streamline the gameplay experience.

Regrettably, the campaign does not support online multiplayer this time around either. But, multiplayer fans shouldn’t worry as the game makes up for it with a much deeper solo campaign experience, and plenty of multiplayer options.

These include a revamped Escalation Mode, with players trying to survive 15 waves of enemies, while purchasing traps, calling in gunship support and discovering mystery weapon boxes.

Deathmatch and Conquest modes triumphantly return as well, while multiplayer brings back the four selectable class types, albeit with new names. These include playing as Titans, which are tanks that are the biggest and slowest, but can take a real beating, Infiltrators that are fast on foot and can turn invisible, truck-like Destroyers that dish out large damage and can deploy force fields, and Scientists who take on air-based alternative modes.

Plus, an all-new upgrade system allows every weapon to be modified to improve its range, rate of fire and ammo capacity. Secondary abilities can also be improved as well, and all are done through Teletran stations scattered across the arenas.

Character customization has also been improved, with players now able to build their own bot from scratch. Body parts are tied to gameplay perks and enable such things as faster weapon cool downs and transformation speeds.

“Fall of Cybertron” features a much darker tone than its predecessor while aiming to deliver fan favorites and ramped up action. The definitive transformers video game experience, it is available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
