Show creator Rachel Bloom admits that many of the storylines on her show parallel situations she has dealt with in real life. She says that her character, Rebecca, mirrors her real personality in many ways but that the major difference is that in real life, she is married. Her husband is Dan Gregor, who has written for the show and actually made an appearance in the first season. One other major difference she mentions is that her real parents are still together and are very supportive, in contrast to the fictional ones she has on the show.
