Top 5 Reasons People HATE James Corden

This guy gets under your skin and stays there. Welcome to WatchMojo UK and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 5 reasons people hate James Corden.

For this list, we’re ranking the many reasons why James Corden has become one of the most scorned celebrities in Britain. The world-famous comedian was actually quite likeable in his breakout role as Smithy in “Gavin and Stacey”, but as his fame has risen so too has his number of haters. So, let’s take a look at where it all went wrong.

#5: He’s Everywhere

With movies, TV shows, panel shows, sketch shows, chat shows, award shows, adverts, music videos and more, Corden truly gets around - to the ongoing annoyance of many a disgruntled onlooker. Like a boil on the entertainment zeitgeist, he simply refuses to go away. It wouldn’t be so bad if all of these appearances were critically acclaimed, but they very rarely are. The cash-grabbing ads are probably the worst offenders of the lot. No, you’re not the ‘sheep whisperer’, the sheep just don’t want to be near you.

#4: Awkward Award Show Antics

James has racked up a long list of award show no-nos, from criticising BAFTA for not giving him enough statuettes, to the infamous on-stage spat with Patrick Stewart at 2010’s Glamour Awards. While Stewart seemed to goad James during that altercation, Corden’s comebacks were deemed childish and arrogant. But, James surpassed himself at the 2018 Grammys, for a stunt involving ‘consolation puppies’ - awarded to the losers in the Best Comedy Album category. Animal Rights activists were quick to criticise the presenter, while others took to social media to slate Corden’s performance as host, in general.

#3: Film and TV Flops

“Lesbian. Vampire. Killers”. Enough said, really. But, there have been many, many more momentous blips on Corden’s never ending quest for fame. From “The Emoji Movie” to the “Horne & Corden” sketch show, the critics paint James as some sort of factory for unfunny movies and try-hard attempts to stay relevant. And then there’s that cringeworthy World Cup single, and the questionable cover of “Gold Digger” for Radio 1. And the increasingly desperate publicity stunts, including planting a kiss onto Sean Spicer! When will he stop?

#2: Joking About Harvey Weinstein

Our runner-up takes us to the immediate aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, and James wades into story without any sign of sincerity. Instead, Corden just makes light of the situation while hosting an AIDS benefit gig, by throwing some misplaced banter in Harvey’s direction - including a woeful quip about Weinstein taking a bath. He did apologise afterwards, but it’s not the first time Corden has made an inappropriate speech. His critics still haven’t forgotten that intro for Keira Knightley at the 2008 Empire Awards.

#1: Selling Out to America

After “Gavin & Stacey”, James had been tipped as Britain’s next great comedian. Then his attentions turned to Hollywood, and his apparent arrogance grew. And if you find him unbearable on our own shores, his relentless, sycophantic sucking up to American A-Listers across the pond might be the final straw! Whether it’s excruciating interviews or self-indulgent singalongs, the whole facade that Corden is best mates with every popular celebrity wears thinner by the day. That being said, you shouldn’t believe your own hype, but James definitely seems to. Blinded by the bright lights of L.A, the straight-up charm of Smithy seems a long time ago.
