#5: Constant Fitness Posts

No, we’re not talking about fitness accounts, we’re talking about those personal accounts that suddenly think their personal trainers. The occasional workout pic is not only a good excuse to show off that figure, but also might just help motivate your followers to start getting serious about their own fitness. But then you scroll through your feed and suddenly see more and more bad mirror selfies, posts of you went to high school with flexing and posing at the gym and random meal prep pics...Did you suddenly follow a bunch of fitness accounts and forgot you did so? Please create a separate fitness account for that. Thanks!

#4: The “Follow for Follow” and “Likes for Likes”

So you want to be instagram famous, but you don’t actually want to put out great content? Have no fear, follow for follow and likes for likes are here! Constantly begging for follows in the comments of other people’s posts or hashtagging that you’ll only like other posts if they like yours first doesn’t accomplish anything other than attracting other follow for followers or like for likers. And because they’re not organic… they honestly don’t really count. It’s a fickle relationship that lasts only about as long as the motivation to type all those hashtags does. Sorry.. But when we see your desperate appeals, it pretty much guarantees we’ll never follow you.

#3: Only Ever Posting Selfies

Social media is a fantastic place to share interesting or personal things about your life, connect with others, and express yourself as an individual. Only ever showing posed pictures of your face though? You’d do a more effective job by renting a billboard. Even if your instagram account is a personal one dedicated to your social life, you make it tough for your followers to appreciate what you did on the weekend when there’s nothing shown but a blurry photo of a face or two. It’s even worse when the selfies are always weed or alcohol related. We’re not sure who you’re trying to impress, but it’s really not working.

#2: Liking Their Own Pictures

Ohhhhh boy. We all know that the process of posting the perfect insta shot is a long and painful one, so by the time it’s been filtered, cropped and published, the fact that you chose to post it makes it plenty clear that you like the photo. Why bother with physically clicking “like”? Not only does it make it look like you’re only on instagram for the likes or worse, that you’re promoting whatever product you’ve included in the shot, it also gives everyone the impression that you’re desperate to appear more popular and successful on social media than you actually are. So don’t panic… if it’s a good post, the likes will come.

#1: Using Too Many Hashtags

It’s tough to really enjoy a good instagram post when there’s a proverbial sea of little blue hashtags floating around underneath it. We all know these posts… the ones that clutter our feed with every hashtag under the sun, some popular ones and some we’ve never heard of, but we’re sure will not catch on. We want to read your caption we really do, but it makes it hard when you've hashtaged every other word. #that #is #annoying.
