Top 10 Video Game Superheroes Who Kill The Most

Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Video Game Superheroes Who Kill The Most.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the heroes in video games, as well as heroic characters that succumb to evil, that have acquired massive kill counts over the course of their adventures.

Which video game heroes do you think will make this list? Let us know in the comments below.

#10: Alex Mercer

“Prototype” series (2009-12)

Formerly the head researcher behind the Blacklight virus, a series of unfortunate events led Alex to become infected with it. He soon develops superhuman abilities such as the power to regenerate, transform parts of his body into weapons, consume people and acquire their memories, as well as shapeshift into them. Along with the enemies that try to kill him throughout the game, it’s easy for Alex to kill any innocent bystander that gets too close. As a result, Alex causes a lot of collateral damage resulting in an extremely large kill count. In the sequel, Mercer returns as the game’s antagonist and causes another outbreak, resulting in even more deaths. Overall, his kill count may range from a few hundred thousand to a few million.

#9: Cole MacGrath

“Infamous” series (2009-14)

As a result of the accident that turned him into a conduit, Cole MacGrath possesses immense power and can kill people just as easily as he can save them. In both Infamous and Infamous 2, it’s possible for Cole to kill both enemies and civilians, but doing so will cause Cole to obtain evil karma. As Cole becomes more evil, his powers also grow more destructive and more lethal and he can even use his powers to absorb people’s life force to increase his strength. In the second game, whether Cole sides with humanity and kills the conduits or sides with the conduits and destroys humanity, his actions are guaranteed to take a lot of lives.

#8: Master Chief

“Halo” series (2001-)

When you're tasked with eliminating a parasitic alien species intent on consuming all life in the universe, you can expect Master Chief to have a pretty high number of kills under his belt. Over the course of the series, the majority of Master Chief’s kills include the Flood and members of alien races belonging to groups such as the Forerunners and the Covenant. With a battle spanning years and across the entire galaxy, it’s not surprising that Master Chief’s kill count may reach somewhere between a few tens of thousands to even millions. Especially once you factor in that he’s destroyed places such as High Charity, as well as the Alpha Halo.

#7: The Prince

“Katamari” series (2004-18)

After a powerful being known as the King of All Cosmos, accidentally wipes out nearly every celestial body in the galaxy, he sends his son the Prince to clean up his mess. He does this by using a magic ball to gather enough materials to reconstruct the destroyed stars, as well as the moon. As the ball grows larger, it proceeds to absorb any materials smaller than it. However, this also includes living materials such as animals, people and eventually entire cities. Not only does the ball absorb and crush millions of people and animals together, it is inevitably shot into space. If anything was still alive while trapped in the ball, it’s safe to say that may no longer be the case.

#6: Joel Miller

“The Last of Us” series (2013-20)

In the 20 years following the outbreak of the Cordyceps Brain Infection, Joel becomes a ruthless hunter willing to hurt and kill others for his survival. After being tasked to look after a young girl named Ellie, who holds the key to saving humanity, he slowly begins to see her as a surrogate daughter and protects her from a variety of threats such as infected humans, bandits, as well as cannibals. When Joel learns that Ellie needs to die in order for a cure to be developed, he proceeds to slaughter members of the Firefly militia in order to save her. In addition to the few hundred people that Joel’s killed throughout the game, he’s also indirectly responsible for the deaths of even more people.

#5: Lara Croft

“Tomb Raider” series (1996-2018)

When it comes to the adventures of Lara Croft, you can always expect to find a mountain of bodies in her wake, both mortal and supernatural. Over the years, there have been different versions of Lara, all of whom have mastered a variety of skills ranging from acrobatics, hand to hand combat, weapons training, as well as mastering the subtle art of stealth kills. In addition to humans, Lara has also killed wild animals, undead skeletons and even dinosaurs. Among the few hundred kills under this femme fatale’s belt, one of her biggest includes taking down an actual T-Rex.

#4: Nathan Drake

“Uncharted” series (2007-17)

Nathan Drake spent most of his life learning about and searching for hidden treasures and ancient civilizations such as El Dorado and Shambhala. He’s travelled to many different places around the world where he’s faced plenty of competition and made tons of enemies along the way. During his adventures, Nathan has killed plenty of people as well as some mutated humans. In the first three games alone, it’s estimated that his kill count may exceed over 1,800 people. While not as high as some of the other entries on our list, it’s pretty damn scary for a regular human to achieve this many kills on his own.

#3: Agent 47

“Hitman” series (2000-)

If you thought Nathan Drake was scary, then you’ve clearly not met Agent 47. This genetically engineered clone was designed to be the perfect killing machine. Over the years, his training and ingenuity have allowed him to kill many targets in virtually every conceivable way possible. In addition to the classic death by sniper, his list of creative assassinations include killing one target with a hippopotamus as well as smothering another with a birthday cake. Agent 47 has killed hundreds if not thousands of targets, one of which includes an actual ghost. When a man is capable of killing even the undead, you definitely don’t want to get on their bad side.

#2: Mario

“Super Mario” series (1985-)

Since his debut in the early 80’s, this iconic plumber has racked up one of the biggest kill counts in the history of video games. Every time he goes off on an adventure, he ends up taking out a ton of enemies in the process. What’s more, his kills not only include classic foes such as Goombas and Koopas, but also Yoshi, one of Mario’s closest allies. After almost 40 years of this, it’s safe to say that Mario’s kill count may reach genocidal levels. One thing’s for sure, you’ll definitely never think of Mario the same way ever again.

#1: Kratos

“God of War” series (2005-)

Taking the top spot on this list is one of the most infamous anti-heroes in all of video games. As a Spartan warrior, Kratos had already killed scores of people both warriors and civilians alike. Since becoming a servant of Ares, that number has only continued to grow. His rage and fury grew to such uncontrollable levels that he wiped out several Titans, nearly every one of the Olympian gods, as well as caused a massive flood that killed millions. Even after moving to ancient Norway, Kratos continues to kill even more monsters and gods. With Kratos' adventures in the Norse realms only just beginning, his kill count is expected to grow even higher.
