Top 10 Funniest TikTok Trends

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Funniest TikTok Trends.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the most hilarious trends that have emerged from this social media platform.

How many of these have you tried? Let us know in the comments!

#10: Rating

This trend is a simple one, but it’s surprisingly effective. Tik Tok users film the people around them, like their friends and family members, and assign ratings to their actions. So a roommate who ate your leftovers would have a one on ten slapped over their image while a roommate who ordered extra fries for you would probably get top marks. It’s mostly used in jest, with the subjects of the video being totally unaware that they’re even being rated. This trend can of course also be applied to pets - and hey why not rate yourself?

#9: Recreating Movie Scenes

While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact origin of this TikTok trend, many attribute it to fans making fun of Debby Ryan’s character in Disney’s “Radio Rebel”. Her performance was just a tiny bit awkward, but luckily she wasn’t above poking a little fun at herself. The trend has now taken off with users recreating other movie and TV scenes with their own spin on it. The Disney Channel original movies seem to be a favorite among TikTokers, so the “Camp Rock” recreations are some of the best and most hilarious.

#8: Couple Clothes Swap

Couples' challenges always make for good TikTok trends, and now that so many of us are stuck in our houses quarantined together we’ve got to work with the people we live with when it comes to creating content. In this challenge, couples swap clothes with one another, to varying results. Sometimes, they can look a little outlandish, while other times they look surprisingly amazing. These videos are typically set to a soundtrack of “Famous (I‘m The One)” by Mozzy and Iamsu! Another great couples trend is the “Walk In Naked” challenge, when one person surprises their partner by walking into a room stark naked and filming their reaction.

#7: ‘Gonna Know”

This trend seems to have originated on March 25th, 2020, when TikToker @cgleason22 used audio from an episode of the TV show “Bad Girls Club” and lip-synced to, debating whether to create a fake account to comment on his own videos. Within six months, his TikTok had accumulated 1.7 million views. The trend took off, with other users taking the short back-and-forth dialogue and using it for increasingly hilarious situations. The theme is typically that the first character wants to do something deceptive, while the second acts as the voice of reason.

#6: “I Am Lost”

Have you ever had a French fry fall under the seat of your car and just left it there? Have you ever had something roll under your bed and couldn’t be bothered to retrieve it for months? Then the “I Am Lost” challenge is for you. By using a Snapchat filter, users put faces on lost objects and set the images to the melancholy tune of the song "In This Shirt” by The Irrepressibles. It’s been used for kickballs stuck in gym ceilings and items left in school lockers before quarantine started, along with everything in between.

#5: “Nobody Needs to Know”

In the hugely popular musical “Hamilton”, the character of Alexander Hamilton sings a song that addresses his relationship with his mistress, Maria Reynolds. Called “Say No To This,” the song has him saying “nobody needs to know” about their affair. Not long after though, he sings about it in another song, “The Reynolds Pamphlet,” effectively blowing his own secret. TikTok users have combined lines from these two songs and applied them to their own lives when they do an equally bad job keeping their own secrets, either real or imagined.

#4: Leaving My Body

Using the Purple Flame Creative Effect, TikTok users are able to make it seem like colorful fire is being emitted from their bodies. Of course, they’ve managed to turn it into a hilarious trend. This challenge can be done either sarcastically or genuinely, depending on the situation. The more popular usage however seems to be Tiktokers employing it with a mocking tone. For example, someone will post saying that all their stress is leaving their body after someone told them to calm down. This is an interesting trend because like so many others on the platform, it’s used both for humor but also to educate people on social issues they may not fully understand.

#3: “You Have to Stop”

User @ianwearspants originated this TikTok format when he posted a video where he ranted telling people to stop romanticizing their own lives with harp music playing in the background. Other users took the “You Have To Stop” format and ran with it, reaching such a high level of popularity that even Dr. Phil participated in the trend. He made a plaintive video asking commenters to stop calling him “Daddy,” which is hilarious in its own right. Now, the format can be applied to pretty much anything, both serious and silly.

#2: “Don't Leave Me”

Don’t Leave Me is basically the dad joke of TikTok trends. It is almost unbelievably wholesome, featuring users delivering puns or intentionally groan-worthy jokes and then begging their friends not to leave them as they run away from the camera. They mostly feature plays on words, and props are frequently used to make the point with visual cues. The funniest part of this trend is basically just how not funny it is. We’d never leave anyone who could make us laugh like this - no matter how awful their jokes really are.

#1: “I'm Just a Kid”

Time to get the gang back together again! Set to the music of Simple Plan and their song “I’m Just a Kid”, this trend features users recreating their childhood photos now that they’re all grown up. Since so many people are stuck at home with their families during quarantine, there has been no better time for this trend to take off. It’s not like we have anything better to do than go through old family photos! The videos under this hashtag can be sweet and sentimental or totally cringeworthy, depending on the user.
