Top 10 Funniest Female Animated Characters

The world of animation has provided us with some of the funniest women we know. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Funniest Female Animated Characters.

For this list, we’re looking at female characters on animated TV shows who are able to crack us up at every opportunity.

#10: Dee Dee

“Dexter’s Laboratory” (1996-99, 2001-03)

Dexter is an ingenious young boy who has a secret lab hidden away in his room. His sister, Dee Dee, on the other hand is... not so ingenious. She’s a dim-witted and curious girl who knows Dexter’s secret, and manages to make his life a living hell as she does everything in her power to annoy him. Her signature button pushing will always get a chuckle out of even the most stone-faced viewer. Despite her general idiocy, she often plays a major role in the series, helping bring down the villain more than once, and sometimes even getting her own standalone episodes.

#9: Turanga Leela

“Futurama” (1999-2013)

The Planet Express delivery company would be nothing without its badass captain, Leela. She’s easily the most professional member of the crew, though her commitment to her job can be a bit over-the-top at times. Despite being incredibly capable, growing up in an oprhanarium has caused her to be very insecure, something the rest of the crew likes to poke fun at. Katey Sagal’s deadpan delivery gives Leela some of her most hilarious moments, whether it’s ass-kicking Leela, lovestruck Leela, or just plain weird Leela. We would all be lucky to be able to explore space with such an entertaining Cyclops of a captain.

#8: Mabel Pines

“Gravity Falls” (2012-16)

Kristen Schaal could turn any character into a master class vocal performance of comedy. So she does with Mabel, the sillier of the mystery-solving Pine twins. She’s an effervescent and impulsive young girl who, along with her brother Dipper, solves the supernatural mysteries of the Oregon town known as Gravity Falls. Though her cheery nature causes others to underestimate her, she is vital in resolving many of the otherworldly conflicts, albeit with her own wacky charm that’s sure to garner more than a few laughs.

#7: Princess Carolyn

“BoJack Horseman” (2014-)

Two words: cat jokes. Princess Carolyn is a Hollywoo agent who struggles to balance her career and her love life, but will go to hilarious lengths to do so. Amy Sedaris gives a brilliantly hilarious voice performance that brings the character to life, from her ridiculous tongue twisters to her surprisingly touching dramatic moments. She manages to stand out in a show filled with incredible characters and she’s delivered some of the series’ best one-liners. Of course, we can’t talk about Princess Carolyn without mentioning that time she had a serious relationship with three young boys stacked on top of each other, thinking they were an adult man.

#6: Dot Warner

“Animaniacs” (1993-98)

Just as eccentric as any of the male Warner siblings, Dot is the epitome of cuteness, and she knows it. This has made her a bit of an image-obsessed narcissist, but that’s just one of her many odd characteristics. Despite this, she can still be the most aggressive of her siblings, especially if anyone calls her “Dottie.” Though she’s not an official Looney Tune, she’s made enough of an impact that she could hold her own against Daffy or Bugs, and with an announced revival, we just might get the opportunity to see that happen.

#5: Lumpy Space Princess

“Adventure Time” (2010-)

Angsty teenage girls are usually a great source of comedy, but LSP takes it up a notch by being... just so weird. Voiced to comedic gold by series creator Pendleton Ward, she’s the princess of Lumpy Space. She’s narcissistic, image-obsessed and hungry for attention, often using bizarre yet priceless colloquialisms. She’s just as much an ally to Finn and Jake as a thorn in their sides, paying little attention to the affairs of others, but always offering her unique point of view. We can only hope for the miracle of a Lumpy Space spinoff. After all, there’s no doubt that she’s the funniest lumping lady in all of Ooo.

#4: Francine Smith

“American Dad!” (2005-)

While most TV moms tend to be the voice of reason, Francine is just as crazy as the rest of the Smith clan. She can adversely be a truly loving wife and mother, but also does whatever it takes to keep her family in check. Although she’s usually pretty ditzy, she still has a major dark side, often taking pleasure in acts of violence. Whether she’s becoming a bestselling mystery author or getting her revenge on George Clooney, Frannie might be the most bizarre mom on TV, and we’ll never tire of watching her insane antics.

#3: Amethyst

“Steven Universe” (2013-)

A show as sincere and heartfelt as “Steven Universe” needs a good dose of comic relief. Thankfully, the carefree and laidback Amethyst is always there with a good zinger. Her intense love of food rivals Steven’s, and her shape-shifting ability always makes for wonderful sight gags. Her bad manners and lackadaisical attitude make her a great foil for the no-nonsense Pearl and Garnet, and a much more understanding friend to Steven. Her fun attitude and chemistry with the other characters is an integral part of the heart that the series is known for, and it just wouldn’t be the same without her.

#2: Marge Simpson

“The Simpsons” (1989-)

Marge is the quintessential TV mom: clueless, caring, and endlessly ridiculous. Her gravelly voice and crazy blue updo are instantly recognizable, and she’s become a pop culture icon since her 1987 debut. Even when she’s serving as the voice of reason, her one-liners are always memorable. Though she’s often a straight woman, her neurotic tendencies have led her on some crazy escapades. She’s easily the most underrated member of the Simpson clan, and the series has managed the impressive task of maintaining her duality as a comic tour-de-force and a straight woman.

Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions:

Yzma

“The Emperor’s New School” (2006-08)

Diane Choksondik

“South Park” (1997-)

Summer Smith

“Rick and Morty” (2013-)

#1: Tina Belcher

“Bob’s Burgers” (2011-)

The Belcher family has no shortage of funny ladies, including Linda and Louise, but no one can get laughs quite like Tina. Tina is the oldest Belcher child, with a monotone voice, poor social skills, and an endless array of endearing quirks. Throughout the series, she experiences the confusion of a budding sexuality, often fantasizing about butts, zombies, and, of course, her perpetual crush, Jimmy Pesto, Jr. Strange as she is, she’s as lovable as she is hilarious, as we see her come to terms with and accept her oddities in the face of schoolmates who don’t always approve.
