Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at 10 Times “Transformers” Infiltrated Video Games! They are more than meets the eye, and in these games, they are all we notice. Which of these strange appearances have you seen? And who is your favorite Transformer? Let us know down in the comments!

“Saints Row IV” (2013)

The “Saints Row” franchise isn’t one to shy away from a few movie references in between its over-the-top action. With “Transformers” dominating the box office from the late-2000’s to mid-2010’s, it sort of makes sense to find one reference in “Saints Row IV”. During your final mission to bring down Zinyak, the alien overlord will call you and your character will say “One shall stand, one shall fall.” This is the famous line said by Optimus Prime in the 2007 Michael Bay flick. They might be bad movies, but at least they have some cool moments.

“Assassin’s Creed” (2007)

Considering “Assassin’s Creed” takes place in historical time periods, it doesn’t make much sense throwing in a “Transformers” reference somewhere. Well, it’d make more sense during the modern day sequences. And yet, the first “Assassin’s Creed” hid one right under our noses. Somewhere in the Holy Land, a building displays a strange, square protrusion just above its doors. This formation looks way too much like the front of Optimus Prime when he is in his truck form.

“World of Warships” (2015)

These days, various IP holders are discovering how live service games can revive dormant properties or renew public interest. As the Michael Bay movies spiraled downward, “World of Warships” reminded everyone how cool “Transformers” really is with a crossover event. During the “Warships in Disguise” event, players could earn and buy various cosmetics to deck out their profile and ships in “Transformers”-themed skins and even recruit Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Rumble as Commanders. A second event in 2022 added Hot Rod, Grimlock, Starscream, and Soundwave as Commanders.

“StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty” (2010)

Okay, we are definitely cheating with this one as this isn’t really a part of “StarCraft II”, but it’s still worth mentioning because of how ridiculous it is. For April Fools 2009, Blizzard announced a brand new unit for “Wings of Liberty” that required your entire base to create - Terra-tron! Not only does this mechanized menace reference “Transformers”, it even sounds like Optimus, too. Too bad it was never actually added into the game, and Blizzard took down the official page for it years and years ago.

“Angry Birds Transformers” (2014)

Strangely enough, “Angry Birds” saw a couple of crossovers after it reached its peak of popularity in the early 2010’s. Whereas “Angry Birds Star Wars” was just “Angry Birds” with lightsabers and Force abilities, “Angry Birds Transformers” was more of a shooter. Tap to shoot the Eggbots as your Autobird or Deceptihog runs across the screen. It's simple, explosive, and oddly satisfying to play. We just wish it was ported to consoles like the “Star Wars” crossovers.

“SMITE” (2014)

In a world where gods and goddesses of various mythologies fight for control over three lanes, Cybertron’s greatest heroes and villains invade and join the fight to strengthen their own forces. In all seriousness, “SMITE” has seen a bizarre assortment of crossovers with Nickelodeon, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, “Stranger Things”, etc. But in November 2021, “SMITE” held a crossover event where players could earn various cosmetics from banners to profile icons to, of course, character skins. Play as Optimus Prime, Starscream, or Megatron in place Geb, Jing Wei, and Ra respectively. You could even unlock skins based on their G1 iterations!

“DreamMix TV World Fighters” (2003)

In the “Transformers” community, this is probably one of the most famous fever dreams. “DreamMix TV World Fighters” was a platform fighter published by Hudson Soft, the studio behind “Mario Party”, “Bomberman”, and more before Konami absorbed it in 2012. In this game, you could have Optimus Prime and Bomberman beating the snot out Simon Belmont while Snake takes on Megatron and one of the fighters from “Bloody Roar”. Like we said, fever dream. Unfortunately, the game never left Japan and has never been brought forward to newer hardware. Perhaps there’s a chance for something like this since Konami is [sort of] making a return?

“Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire” (2003)

We’ll cap things off with a bit of a debate for you all. There has been some contention with this, but we believe this is absolutely a “Transformers” reference. If you haven’t played “Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire”, there are three Legendary titan Pokemon - Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. Registeel has a unique cry that sounds an awful lot like part of the sounds a Transformer makes when transforming. Sure, it isn’t the entire sound, but the beats and rhythm are enough to make it seem…more than meets the ear.
