The 10 Hardest Bosses in Ninja Gaiden

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at the 10 toughest bosses across the entire “Ninja Gaiden” franchise!

Rasetsu

“Ninja Gaiden II” (2008)
Seems a bit silly to put the first boss on a list like this, but Rasetsu is the boss that will filter players out of “Ninja Gaiden II”. This giant spider demon does not hold back with quick attacks, grabs, and more. Thankfully, the right hits can stun him for a brief moment so you can land even more hits on him. Just try not to get too overconfident in your abilities. Despite being the first boss of the game, you may only escape Rasetsu by the skin of your teeth. This was merely a basic test in seeing if you understand the different maneuvers at your disposal. It only gets harder from here.

Nicchae

“Ninja Gaiden: Black” (2004)
The fight against the Greater Fiend of Destruction can be frustrating for the simple fact that Nicchae loves to spam the same two moves. Closing the distance will prove to be aggravating as she’ll try to fly away from you before rushing you down with a divebomb. The constant camera cuts can also make it troublesome in keeping up with the action. That said, try not to let your guard down between the camera cuts, and know when you should chase her down and when you should focus on dodging.

Alexei

“Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge” (2012)
If you thought Alexei was challenging to face in “Ninja Gaiden II”, you must not have played or understandably forgot about “Ninja Gaiden 3”. Alexei returns in this entry, and he’s way, way more infuriating than before. Most of his moves give you less than a second to react, and if you hesitate for even half a moment, you’re more than likely to get caught in the lightning or instantly grabbed. And to think this isn’t even the worst fight you’ll have to endure in this game!

Genshin

“Ninja Gaiden II” (2008)
In a conventional sense, Genshin is the kind of boss you would save for the very end of the game. Alas, Genshin is only the second boss you face in “Ninja Gaiden II” (not counting that second encounter with Rasetsu beforehand). Genshin is the token boss that does everything they can to make sure you cannot play the video game. His attacks will take several attempts to get a proper read on, and they come in quick succession, giving you little room to react. Really, the best advice we can give you is to either execute patience and concentration or just assault him before he assaults you.

Doku

“Ninja Gaiden: Black” (2004)
It doesn’t matter which encounter you want to go with. Be it the first, second, or third encounter, Doku is one of the most challenging bosses in “Black”, and he can get even tougher after the first fight. While he falters a bit in rushing you down or employing ranged attacks, Doku can become a major threat up close. One of his moves is an instant grab that can kill you in a single hit! Yeah, and we thought the fire breath was cause for concern! Just try to find those windows to close in on him and land some strong blows.

Fiend Genshin

“Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge” (2012)
If there was one boss that seems to get talked about a lot when discussing “Ninja Gaiden 3”, it’s Fiend Genshin. That’s right, this buttmunch from “Ninja Gaiden II” shows his ugly mug once again for yet another round, and he’s worse than before. Comboing this dude is gonna be next to impossible this time as he’ll simply teleport out of your string and try to flank you. There may be a bit of dive bombing involved in his counters, too. You’re just going to have to keep your wits about you and know when to go in for a few hits.

shtaros

“Ninja Gaiden: Black” (2004)
Compared to her sister, Ishtaros is a much more formidable foe, harder than Marbus himself! The Greater Fiend of Creation is also far more annoying than Nicchae on account of two things. The first problem is her arm whip, which covers most of the area with its obscene range. Even if you manage to dodge, weave, and close your distance with her, Ishtaros will still manage to cheap shot you with a knee to the chest, launching you into the air and opening you up to get comboed. The second problem is how the window to hit her seems so freakin’ slim as she can just easily avoid almost any attack you can execute at the last second. Fair warning - controllers may get thrown.

Jaquio

“Ninja Gaiden” (1989)
Surprisingly, the original 2D “Ninja Gaiden” games didn’t really have many challenging boss fights. Really, it was the levels themselves that would give you a run for your money. But to leave out Jaquio from this list would be a crime against nature. Like the other bosses, Jaquio follows a deceptively simple pattern. The thing is that in order to land a hit on him, you’ll have to jump off the wall while taking care to not make contact with him or his fireballs. Easier said than done, of course, especially since the timing between his movement and throwing fireballs are on their own respective beats.

The Goddess

“Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge” (2012)
Larger than life in size and power, this final boss of “Ninja Gaiden 3” is absolutely among the hardest bosses in the franchise’s history. Not as hard as our final pick, but we’ll get to that in a minute. The Goddess can rain glowing projectiles from the sky, some of which will spawn enemies into the area. She can also attack fairly quickly for an enemy at such a colossal scale. So long as you remain mindful of your positioning and keep an eye on what she’s doing, you should be able to make it out of this fight with very few scratches.

Awakened Alma

“Ninja Gaiden: Black” (2004)
Alma was already insanely tough in her regular form, so much that she’s actually made it on a handful of WatchMojo’s other lists regarding difficult female bosses. Her Awakened form is much, much tougher to take on due to how much nonsense she can exploit. Her patterns are unpredictable, and she makes the Flying Swallow technique almost useless. You can still land it during very specific windows, but most of your time fighting Alma here is gonna be spent dodging, blocking, and trying to stay alive. If there was any boss that we’d consider the ultimate test for “Ninja Gaiden” players, it’s Awakened Alma.
