Everything You Need to Know Going into The Walking Dead Season 11

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for Everything you need to know going into “The Walking Dead” Season 11.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the most important details to remember before heading into the final season of this long running apocalyptic show. Since we’ll be talking about story points from seasons one through ten, a spoiler warning is in effect.

What do you want to see most in “The Walking Dead’s” last season? Shamble down to the comments below and let us know!

#10: Where Maggie’s Been & Where She’s Going

During the big time skip in season 9, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie left most of her family to help groups with her ally Georgie. One of the main reasons for her departure in the show is that she wanted to get away from Negan, the man who executed her husband. She was still trying to help other communities when a terrible conflict brought her new village down. Unable to reconnect with Georgie, Maggie returned to her old family. Unfortunately for her, there have been a few worrisome developments. The biggest issue is that Negan was controversially released from jail and now enjoys more freedom. If Maggie’s going to live in her old home again, she'll have to figure out how to deal with her old enemy.

#9: The Wardens Join the Fight

When Maggie returned, she brought some new faces from a group called “The Wardens” along with her. We met a grizzled Survivor named Cole who seems to serve as her new right hand man. She also brought along Elijah, a natural fighter who rocks two insanely cool Japanese sickles called kama as his primary weapons. But the most precious new face to join the crew belongs to Kien Michael Spiller’s Hershel Rhee. Within just a few minutes of meeting him, we could tell that he was just as resourceful and mischievous as his father Glenn was. It also helps that his hat looks just like his dad’s. Herschel, Cole, Elijah and the remaining Wardens will definitely be needed to help Maggie overcome her approaching enemies.

#8: A Supersized Story

The final season of the first show in this Zombie franchise will be the biggest one fans have ever seen. According to early reports, the eleventh installment of the series will consist of a staggering 24 episodes. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The TV series has adapted almost every volume of the original comic at this point. With an extended season, the showrunners have time to hit the last story arcs without rushing the plot. We're sure fans will treasure the time they’ll have with characters they've grown to know and love over the last decade and counting. The journey to the end of “The Walking Dead” will begin with at least eight episodes in 2021.

#7: Ezekiel Might Not Make It to the End

While the Whisperers were causing trouble for the survivors, Ezekiel revealed he has thyroid cancer. Since he doesn't have access to modern medical treatment in the ruined world, the former king began doubting he’d live a long life. Ezekiel's grim outlook is one of two major pieces of evidence that he's living on borrowed time. In the comics, the king was taken out during the Whisperer war. But Ezekiel was around to see his friends win the war on the show. Although he outlived his comic counterpart, the king now has to battle cancer and new enemies at the same time. Ezekiel will need a lot of help and luck if he's going to make it to the finale.

#6: Connie Can Make a Comeback

After Carol’s rage got the best of her, she accidentally led Connie and other allies into a Whisperer cave trap. Although most of the group escaped, Connie was trapped underground when the cave collapsed. We got our first hint that she survived the harrowing incident a few episodes later. But Connie was still a no-show in her community for the rest of the Whisperer war. We began to fear that she’d become a walker until she was rediscovered by a new ally named Virgil. Unfortunately, the season 11 trailer hinted that she was still in a lot of danger after that fateful meeting. Hopefully she’ll be able to take down whoever and whatever is standing in the way of reuniting with her people.

#5: Alexandria Is Near Its Breaking Point

Our heroes have had the worst luck with their communities in the last two seasons. A combination of agricultural and logistical problems forced the residents of the Kingdom to flee their home. And during the Whisperer War, the hilltop Colony was overrun by flames and walkers. Refugees from both communities as well as Maggie’s warden group relocated to Alexandria for safety. However, the increased population has made the survivors more desperate to find resources to support everybody. If that wasn't bad enough, Whisperers vandalized the town of Alexandria and damaged its food supply. Although this community’s residents have been through hell already, they’ll still have to fight like hell to keep their home.

#4: Rick & Michonne Are Still Out There

Michonne thought she lost Rick after he blew up a bridge of walkers to save his family. However, it was revealed he survived the explosion and was flown away to an unknown location. Around six years later, Michonne uncovered several hints that Rick is alive. She ultimately leaves her community behind to find him. We know Rick is set to appear again in the first “Walking Dead’ movie. However, this doesn't mean he and Michonne can't cameo in the final season. Since the franchise has played with time skips in the past, the duo could return before or after the events of the film. But even if Rick and Michonne don't make it to season 11, we have faith that we’ll see them together again.

#3: A Caryl Spinoff Is Coming

Throughout the series, Carol and Daryl have survived tons of dangerous situations while maintaining a tight bond. After everything they've been through together, they're set to go on the road in their very own spin-off show following the season 11 finale. This news pretty much guaranteed the duo will be immortal for the remainder of the main series. But we don't think that makes their season 11 journey less interesting to watch. Since Daryl and Carol both have unfinished business and people they care about, they can still get emotional and physical scars. Fortunately, early reports say that the spin-off show will have a “lighter” tone. It sounds like slightly brighter days are coming for Carol and Daryl.

#2: The Reapers Will Sow Chaos

A terrifying group of villains called the Reapers was introduced in season 10. Just a single one of their members was able to take out at least seven survivors in the “Home Sweet Home” episode. When this Reaper was captured, he preferred to perish in an explosion rather than give up more information about his group. At this point, it's unclear what this sinister faction of survivors is planning. The Reapers are clearly willing to take lives and destroy entire societies to achieve whatever twisted goals they have in mind. And seem to be led by a mysterious figure named Pope. Since the Reapers are responsible for destroying Maggie’s last home, we hope she gets payback in season 11.

#1: The Commonwealth Will Capture Our Attention

As if the survivors didn't have enough problems to deal with, four of our Heroes were captured by soldiers from the Commonwealth last season. It quickly became clear that these new characters have enough weaponry, people and badass armor to be a huge threat. The comic version of the Commonwealth reportedly has around 50,000 residents and a strict class system. After this huge society is introduced, long lost characters reunite and Maggie eventually is chosen as its President. While it’s unknown whether the show will follow the same story beats, we know the Commonwealth will have a huge impact on the final season. We can’t wait to tour more of this sprawling post-apocalyptic society as the show rides off into the sunset.
