#3: Hellboy Reboot in the Works With David Harbour

The demonic comic book hero looks like he’ll be hitting the big screen once again, only this time it won’t be helmed by the iconic Guillermo del Toro. Instead, director Neil Marshall of “The Descent” and “Game of Thrones” fame will be leading the project in what its writers are calling a much darker and gruesome imagining. In an interview with SilverScreenBeat, writer Andrew Cosby discussed the “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen’s” tone, saying “From the very beginning [Neil] wanted to walk a razor’s edge between horror and a comic book movie.” The production is also in talks with David Harbour to play the titular role, which could definitely help the film achieve that dark tone with his experience on the Netlfix series “Stranger Things.” Sources also say it will be rated-R, following the footsteps of “Deadpool” and “Logan.”

#2: Official Tupac Documentary to be Directed by Steve McQueen

All eyez will be on Tupac once again after the late rapper’s estate authorized a new documentary about him, set to be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker, Steve McQueen. McQueen voiced his excitement about the project, saying that he was “Extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist.” He also recalled attending NYU Film School in the 1990s, and remembered how “few if any” rappers shined brighter than him at the time. First reported by Deadline, the documentary came to life after Estate trustee Tom Whalley reached an agreement with Amaru Entertainment - founded by Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur - to produce the film. Amaru was created by Afeni to release her son’s posthumous projects. This won’t be the only Tupac movie to come out in the future however, as biopic “All Eyez On Me” is set for release June 16.

Before we get to our final pick, here are a couple new releases:

“King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” (2017)

“The Wall” (2017)

#1: Dave Bautista Claims Blade Runner 2049 is Better than the Original

Cinephiles were treated to the first full-length trailer to Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 this week, and judging by their reactions they loved what they saw. The trailer sparked a ton of conversation; like how Roger Deakins’ cinematography could earn him his first Oscar, how a Prometheus engineer may have made an appearance, and what kind of role Jared Leto’s character will have. But no topic drew more discussion than Dave Bautista’s claims of 2049’s excellence. “I think it’s going to be better than the first film,” Bautista - whose role remains secret - told AFP. “I think the script is better, it’s deeper. I think it’s a better story...” What a quote! He might not be totally off though, as Villeneuve is coming off of giant successes like Sicario and Arrival. Guess we’ll just have to wait for its release on October 6th to find out!
