Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood, & Teef (2022)

If you ever wanted a Warhammer game that doesnt take itself too seriously, then you owe it to yourself to play Shootas, Blood, & Teef. You are a mighty orc, sent out to unleash unmitigated dakka onto the filthy Humies! That is, until your superior betrays you by stealing your precious hat! There is only one answer to this: turn on your fellow orks and kill every last one of them!! It may be your simple shooter-platformer, but the absurd silliness on display and heavy metal soundtrack make this one of the best Warhammer spin-offs on the market. No joke, were kind of wanting a sequel.

Space Hulk: Ascension (2014)

Are you a fan of the classic Space Hulk board game? As fun as it is, its not always easy finding another friend to play with. Thats where the Space Hulk video games come in, and of them all, Ascension is the best of the bunch! While it does retain some aspects of the board game, it takes some creative liberties to break away from the board games strict rules and makes tweaks to make the video game version just as fun. It's an adaptation in spirit, but a video game first and foremost. And really, thats the best way to approach a game as deep, complex, and rich in story as Space Hulk.

Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus (2018)

Indeed, Warhammer has a good handful of strategy and tactical RPGs to dive into. However, if you want a tactics game that is a bit more complex, then Mechanicus is the way to go. In this game, you command an army of the Adeptus Mechanicus as they venture across various landmarks, fending off Xenos and other potential threats. Mechanicus incorporates an almost chess-like format in that you have to use Tech-Priests to gather resources. Your other units that cost resources are considered pawns with more limited movement and attacks. The balance between using your Tech-Priests and your fodder is a bit delicate, but emerging out of an expedition successfully is immensely rewarding.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun (2023)

The boomer shooter subgenre did not seem like a territory Warhammer would ever step into, but developer Auroch Digital found a way to make it work! Boltgun takes the old-school feel of boomer shooters and combines them with modern sensibilities in AI development to create a somewhat difficult campaign. With your trusty boltgun and a few grenades and special abilities, youll take on hordes of enemies across a variety of different locations. Every shot feels great, every new enemy forces a new tactic, and every area is a new challenge in traversal and target priority. This is truly a gem that both Warhammer and FPS fans need to dive into.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters (2022)

While tactical games were super niche when the original Chaos Gate launched in 1998, it has evolved substantially over the years, and Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters evolved with it. This sequel kept the core gameplay of assembling and improving troops while addressing the flaws of other tactics games. Yeah, you know the nonsense of oh, you only have a fifty-two percent chance to land a shot on this enemy who is two spaces from you? Yeah, no - if theyre out in the open or exposed a fair amount, the game will tell you whether your shot will land or not. Theres even a creative mechanic in dismembering enemies that results in them being debuffed until death. All of that coupled with the level design and immersive approach to its story is what makes Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters among the best modern tactics games.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II (2009)

It can be intimidating at first to play a real-time strategy game, but Dawn of War II is sure to provide a ton of fun for both casual and hardcore fans. While you have your typical controls and mechanics youd expect from RTS games, Dawn of War II leans heavily into the War part of the title by sending in legions of enemies in each combat encounter. Really, the number the enemies this game sends at you can get absurd. Youll have to understand each classs strengths and weaknesses and how to take full advantage of your positioning, even if you find your options to be limiting. But this level of chaos and strategic depth reaches a level of quality that few RTS games manage to live up to.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader (2023)

In the mood for a good CRPG? Rogue Trader is the best Warhammer CRPG you can play, hands down. Regardless of the top-down perspective, Rogue Trader does an incredible job at immersing the player into the world with its environments, voice acting, and music. But one of the coolest aspects of the game is how friendly it is to newer Warhammer fans. In other words, you have an easy-to-use and accessible index to help get you more familiar with the world of Warhammer.

Warhammer 40,000: Vermintide II (2018)

Very few games give as much replay value and co-op fun as Vermintide II. Here, you and three other players take on missions where you must fight against hordes of Skaven and, sometimes, legions of the Chaos army. In addition to earning unique weapons and gear, Vermintide IIs main fun factor is in figuring out all of the different character classes, how they work, and finding ways to make the squad even more vicious against the rat-men. But the best part about this whole game? No microtransactions, which was rather unheard of in the online multiplayer space at the time of Vermintide IIs launch.

Total War: Warhammer III (2022)

Wed be remiss to not include this spin-off of the Total War games and the ultimate sequel to the Total War: Warhammer series. While the first two games were equally excellent in their own ways, Total War: Warhammer III quickly established itself to be the best so far. Not only was the tutorial more streamlined for newer players, the game had managed to deliver a more satisfying endgame than its predecessor and packed in plenty of different game modes to truly test our wits. Even after all of the hullabaloo around some of the absurd pricing of DLC, any RTS fan ought to play Total War: Warhammer III regardless of their knowledge of the IP.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II (2024)

Perhaps its the noticeable absence of horde-focused third-person shooters, but Space Marine II is among the sickest games in the shooter genre! And it may possibly be the best Warhammer game ever made. This game just makes you feel like a total powerhouse between the visceral melee attacks and different weapons you can wield. But the most incredible moments are when you and your friends see an absurdly massive horde charging at you, and you all somehow make it out alive. Those moments, along with the smooth controls and fun mechanics, make Space Marine II feel like a real, immersive adventure. If you havent already, you need to go and play this for yourself!
