7 Things You Should Know About Blur

Bizarre Creations is taking a detour from traditional racing and revving up some intense car combat! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re taking a look at the 7 things you should know about Blur.

Number 1: Career Mode

In a unique twist on career racing, the story and missions are revealed through fictitious email messages that are sent to you from several in-game social networks.

Additionally, this fake online world will allow gamers to interact with in-game characters virtually, and learn about their different vehicle options through fake social services, such as “Inner Tube.”

Number 2: The Vehicles

It isn’t a racing game without spectacular vehicles, and in this category Blur doesn’t disappoint. The game includes dozens of licensed cars, such as the Dodge Vipers, Lotus Exiges and even Ford Transit Vans supped-up with F1 engines. In fact, Bizarre Creations has taken certain liberties with the title and created their own custom specialty cars to add a touch of the unfamiliar to the gameplay.

Number 3: Damage Control

Unlike the standard racing game, Blur incorporates weapons combat. As a result the title features full damage modeling and a shield bar, which can be deployed to protect your vehicle from incoming fire. In fact, a car’s outfitted ability to handle acceleration, speed, drift and stability won’t just help you win the race, but keep you moving when under attack.

Number 4: Power-Ups and Weapons

Like cart racing games, players will acquire power-ups and weapons by driving over special icons. As a result, players can pick up Boosts, shields or obtain various electric pulse weapon abilities. These include the use of shock waves and beams that will slow down or temporarily disable your opponents.

Number 5: Racing Locations

Not content to once again roll out ccarbon copies of real-life locations, Bizarre is taking liberties with the designs of real-world cities. As a result, you will be re-introduced to locations such as Los Angeles and London, with a street structure that has been re-imagined for fun over realism.

Number 6: Rewards

Similar to PGR’s Kudo system, Blur rewards players with its own points system. As a result of pulling off death defying stunts and using power-ups in unique ways the game rewards you with “Fan points.” Not only do these help you advance through the career, but enable you to purchase more cars and better parts while generating a fan base.

Number 7: Multiplayer

4 players can hit the tracks together in split-screen, while up to 20 racers can compete with one another in various races and challenges. Once online however, split-screen won’t be possible.

Despite this, players that venture online will be able to choose from dozens of different game modes, power-ups and tracks through their “Racebook.”

Pure racing enthusiasts may not be keen on the game’s various arcade additions, but more casual gamers will enjoy the mixing of hardcore and simply fun gameplay elements. This game succeeds at blurring the boundaries between hardcore realism and fantasy.
