10 Resident Evil Characters With The Most Appearances

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we are giving credit to the characters who show up for work the MOST. These are 10 Resident Evil Characters With The Most Appearances. For this list, we are NOT including remakes, OR non-canonical entries. But, grain of salt, canon is often hard to categorise in this series. Let’s go!

HUNK

4 Appearances (kinda)

I’m breaking the rules of the list instantly, because the audience gets mad when this RE legend isn’t included. That being said, most of his appearances are in non-canonical side hustles. So for ONE ENTRY, we’ll let it slide. HUNK is interesting, his actual impact on the story is questionable, but fans adore him anyway, mainly because he looks like a walking “Do Not Disturb” sign. He first showed off his tactical grim-reaper aesthetic in "Resident Evil 2"’s “Fourth Survivor” mode, instantly becoming the coolest guy to never say anything. Appearing in side modes quickly became his whole career path: he popped up in "Resident Evil 4"’s “Mercenaries”, then clocked back in for "Raid Mode" in the "Revelations" games. At this point, HUNK isn’t a main character, he’s a recurring DLC spirit animal.

Rebecca Chambers

2 Appearances

Rebecca Chambers is one of my favs in the series, she’s cute, she carries a big gun, what’s not to love. But it’s not just me! She always ends up on people's most underrated “Resident Evil” characters lists, she’s the franchise’s “employee who does all the work but never gets the promotion.” She was a crucial partner to Chris Redfield in the original game, even learning to play the piano on the spot just to help him out. Unfortunately, Chris is out here punching boulders, kinda overshadowing Beethoven's whatever symphony. Rebecca finally got her time in the spotlight in the prequel, Resident Evil Zero, teaming up with Billy Coen to stop James Marcus’s monster-making science fair projects. And then… she pretty much vanished from the series. Despite a dozen games since, Rebecca’s biggest return was as a selectable character in RE5’s Mercenaries mode.

Brad Vickers

3 Appearances

Brad Vickers might not be one of “Resident Evil’s” legendary heavy-hitters, but somehow the guy keeps showing up more often than characters who actually matter, not that you don’t matter Brad (he totally doesn’t matter) He first appears in the original game as Alpha Team’s helicopter pilot, the brave hero who immediately panics, nopes out, and then later swoops back in to save everyone. Classic Brad: unreliable, yet strangely useful. His “Resident Evil 2” role? Not great. He’s a zombie, he’s an Easter egg, and he looks like he definitely did not get enough sleep in the afterlife. But “RE3” finally gives him a memorable moment…by having Nemesis absolutely delete him from existence. If nothing else, Brad Vickers will forever be remembered as the man who proved running from your problems only works temporarily.

Claire Redfield

3 Appearances

Claire Redfield hasn’t appeared in nearly as many mainline “Resident Evil” games as you’d think, especially considering her early résumé. She headlined “Resident Evil 2”, scored the lead again in ”Code Veronica”, and at that point fans figured she’d join the franchise’s permanent A-team alongside Chris, Leon, and Jill. But then? Claire basically went on a very long coffee break. Outside of remakes, her only major return was in “Resident Evil Revelations 2”, where she played the seasoned survivor babysitting Barry Burton’s daughter, Moira. It was less “horror adventure” and more “bring-your-kid-to-work day,” except the workplace is full of monsters and HR definitely doesn’t exist.

Ada Wong

3 Appearances

She’s much beloved, and does not appear as much as she should. “Resident Evil” usually has pretty clear heroes and villains… and then there’s Ada Wong, who lives permanently in the grey zone like it’s a luxury condo. The stylish super-spy has tiptoed along the line between good and evil in every appearance she’s made. In "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 4", she helps Leon constantly, though always while secretly running her own side hustle. Things get even wilder in "Resident Evil 6", where Ada actually becomes one of the protagonists and gets her own entire campaign. No matter which hat she’s wearing, hero, villain, or “mysterious woman who refuses to explain anything”, she always delivers unforgettable moments and enough plot twists to rival a whole soap opera.

Barry Burton

3 Appearances

In the original "Resident Evil", Barry Burton was basically Jill’s unofficial emotional support dad, popping up with advice, ammo, and the occasional “You were almost a Jill sandwich!” to boost morale in a murder mansion. After that, though, he slipped into cameo territory with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance at the end of "Resident Evil 3", followed by a stint in the “Mercenaries” mode of "Resident Evil 5", though that doesn’t count, cause it’s not canonical .. What!? I’M SORRY! In 2015, Barry finally got another turn in the spotlight with "Resident Evil Revelations 2". There, he teamed up with Natalia, a mysterious little girl with powers that would put Eveline to shame, all while desperately searching for his missing daughter. Imagine bring-your-kid-to-work day, except the kid isn’t yours and everything wants to kill you.

Leon Kennedy

4 Appearances

To many fans, Leon is "Resident Evil"’s undisputed MVP, the franchise’s golden boy. He started out in "Resident Evil 2" as a rookie cop wildly unprepared for his first day on the job (honestly, someone should have called him). By "Resident Evil 4" he’d leveled up into a suave government agent on a solo mission to save the president’s daughter, because apparently no one else in the entire U.S. Secret Service was free that weekend. His latest major outing, "Resident Evil 6", had him once again trying to save the world, because that’s basically his side hustle. His other canonical entry is argued, but technically The Darkside Chronicles IS partially canonical, and the part that makes it technically canonical includes our boy. Its original scenario, "Operation Javier," is canon, providing backstory for Leon and Krauser before RE4

Jill Valentine

5 Appearances

One of the very first choices Resident Evil players ever made was picking between Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, basically choosing between “dude who punches boulders” and “woman who survives everything the universe throws at her.” Jill went on to become an icon of gaming, surviving the original mansion incident and then getting relentlessly chased around Resident Evil 3 by Nemesis. She returned years later to headline Revelations, proving once again that Jill is allergic to peaceful vacations. But her most surprising role came in RE5, where she temporarily swapped hero duties for villain mode thanks to Wesker’s mind control. Turns out Jill is terrifying on both sides of morality. Once again, like with Leon, her appearance in Darkside Chronicles is widely considered canonical, though some parts aren’t. STILL COUNTS!

Albert Wesker

6 Appearances

Most Resident Evil villains don’t enjoy long careers, mainly because they have a habit of transforming into skyscraper-sized goo monsters and exploding. But Albert Wesker? That guy had longevity. He first popped up in the original game as the main antagonist, rocking sunglasses indoors like a man powered entirely by 90s edge. After that, he slipped into smaller roles in Zero, Code Veronica, and Resident Evil 4, popping in just long enough to remind everyone he was still plotting something evil and probably expensive. He reclaimed center stage in RE5, where he tried to unleash the Uroboros virus on the world, because global domination apparently beats getting a normal job. If he never returns in a major game again, his swan song will technically be Revelations 2—as part of Raid Mode, though this is obviously not canonical. He has a more significant role in the canonical scenario “Memories Of a Lost City” in “The Darkside Chronicles”, nice work Wesker.

Chris Redfield

8 Appearances

Very few Resident Evil games manage to leave out Chris Redfield entirely. The guy has been around since day one, serving as a playable protagonist during the Mansion incident in the original game. Not long after, he showed up in Code Veronica to rescue his sister Claire, because apparently the Redfields can’t go five minutes without needing to save each other from biohazards. By the late 2000s, Chris became a franchise regular. In Revelations, RE5, and RE6, he was front and center as one of the leads, usually doing something heroic, sweaty, and involving at least one boulder. Then in Resident Evil 7 and Village, he stepped into more of a supporting role, popping in to help Ethan Winters whenever things got too spooky or too moldy.
