Video Game Classics: Earthbound

Video Game Classics: Earthbound Known as “Mother 2: Giygas Strikes Back” in Japan, this game was co-created by Ape and HAL laboratory, and published by Nintendo for the SNES. The follow-up to the Japan-exclusive game called “Mother”, it eventually came to North America as a stand alone title. While it was originally a retail failure, due to Western audiences being relatively unfamiliar with the role-playing genre, it quickly earned itself a dedicated following. This was due to its amazing story, unique gameplay, memorable characters, and comedic depiction of American culture. An iconic RPG, in which four kids must save the world, its characters and locations have appeared in the Smash Bros. series over the years, and fans continue to wait for a 3D follow-up to arrive. Join WatchMojo.com as we take a look back at 1994’s iconic role-playing game “Earthbound.”
