VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Mimi Kenny
Is it just us or is it getting a little hot in here? For this list, we'll be looking at the most sensual musical shorts released across the decades. Our countdown includes Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Prince, Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson, and more!

#20: “Partition”

Beyoncé
Want to experience an all-time great fashion show that will have you fanning yourself? Just watch the "Partition" music video. Beyoncé had already shown her sensual side in videos like “Naughty Girl.” (x-ref) However, this bass-heavy track manages to be more steamy because she delivers some of her best come-ons. Beyoncé also takes it to the next level by showcasing beautiful fashions as well as confidence in her body. In the video, the superstar plays an upper-class woman fantasizing about breaking free from her conservative lifestyle. Beyoncé's body confidence in whatever outfit she’s in is incredibly attractive.

#19: “Work”

Rihanna feat. Drake
While two great videos were made for this number-one hit, we’re specifically talking about the one that was filmed at Toronto restaurant The Real Jerk. Rihanna instantly stuns us with her black lipstick and a colorful combination of a mesh dress and bikini. She and other dancers keep our eyes fixed on the screen with sensual and mesmerizing moves. Inside and out of the main club scene, Rihanna and Drake capitalize on their chemistry. The electricity that flies between them can definitely be felt through the screen. All the work Rihanna and Drake put into creating a very sensual video did not go unnoticed.

#18: “Hips Don’t Lie”

Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean
You don't need a music video to understand the message of this chart-topper from Colombian superstar Shakira, but it certainly doesn't hurt. This musical short gives us another reason to love one of the best Latin pop songs of all time. As Shakira sings about a burning desire for someone, she shows she can move her hips and a lot more. We can't blame featured artist Wyclef Jean for being so enraptured, especially with such choreography and so many great outfits from Shakira. Although she also heats things up in the video for “La Tortura.”, there’s always one video we instantly think of when this singer is mentioned. (x-ref) “Hips Don’t Lie” and neither do we.

#17: “Booty”

Jennifer Lopez feat. Iggy Azalea
If anyone has earned the right to call a song “Booty,” it’s Jennifer Lopez. Before the fiery video even starts, it gives you a warning that you’re about to be hit with a lot of stimulating imagery. J. Lo and guest rapper Iggy Azalea proceed to show off and talk about their assets over a thumping club beat. Even Sir Mix-a-Lot might be overwhelmed by how passionate this video is about matters of the derriere. While plenty of attention is paid to their faces, the camera makes their bodies the main focus. What this video and song lacks in subtlety it makes up for with plenty of sexiness.

#16: “S&M”

Rihanna
A few months before the release of the first “Fifty Shades” book, Rihanna sang vibrantly about her fondness for…specific tastes in the bedroom. On the electronically driven "S&M," she delivers one of her most commanding vocal and visual performances. The video celebrates both the erotic and playful aspects of a subject many still consider to be taboo. Its sense of humor somehow makes all the s&m activity Rihanna and others get into even more attractive. Whether viewers share the same tastes or not, it’s hard to resist this funny and risqué video.

#15: “Stacy’s Mom”

Fountains of Wayne
A music video for a song about being infatuated with a friend’s mother needs the right person to play the mom. And Rachel Hunter certainly fits the part. In this video for rock band Fountains of Wayne’s breakout hit, the supermodel plays the titular parent. The song’s young protagonist pines for and has elaborate fantasies about her. While the tone of the song is humorous, Hunter still looks fantastic throughout. “Stacy’s Mom” took Fountains of Wayne from being cult favorites to being heard constantly on the radio. The lesson? Never underestimate the power of sex appeal.

#14: “Kiss”

Prince
There’s nothing quite as sexy as confidence, and Prince had it in spades. In the video for classic song “Kiss,” Prince luxuriates in the spotlight while Wendy Melvoin (mell-voyne) backs him up on guitar. He sings about not having a ton of strict requirements to be his lover. As Prince continues to croon, he shows off his many moves and his many looks, including one without a shirt. The funky rhythms of the song and Prince's soaring falsetto help to make this video even more sensual. This fantastic artist always knew how to make a musical short that we needed to turn on again and again.

#13: “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself”

The White Stripes
The White Stripes’ version of this song is a great rock hit. But its true legacy lies in its unforgettable video. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the musical short for “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself” is filmed in black and white and stars supermodel Kate Moss. The stunning legend shows off her physique and flexibility while the Stripes' song soundtracks her every move. We watch her pose, crawl and get very up and close with a pole throughout the course of the video. She completely commands our attention for the entire runtime. While White Stripes and Kate Moss might not have been an obvious pairing, we’re glad they teamed up for this song.

#12: “Anaconda”

Nicki Minaj
Taking its name and sample from a key moment in "Baby Got Back," "Anaconda" is one of Nicki Minaj's most sexually forward songs, which is saying a lot. The video fully commits to the song’s message of sex and body positivity. Every woman featured radiates confidence and sensual energy. A combination of Anaconda’s innuendos, suggestive imagery and scantily clad performers got the video some negative press. But what sexy musical short doesn’t draw at least a little controversy? Viewers certainly weren’t bothered because this was the first video by a female rapper to hit one billion views with no features.

#11: “Untitled (How Does It Feel)”

D’Angelo (dee angelo)
This classic “Untitled ”neo-soul video still leaves us speechless. The camera is completely focused on D'Angelo as he sings smoothly to a potential lover. As it zooms out from a close-up, we start to see a whole lot more of D'Angelo. While we know he’s definitely not wearing a shirt, that might not be the only article of clothing he's missing. There aren’t many musical shorts that center on the male body as much as this one does. So, this video caused quite a stir for just how far it goes. We can’t imagine how it felt for D’Angelo to receive the attention did after he released this memorable hit.

#10: “WAP”

Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion
Although we can’t tell you what “WAP” stands for here, we can still say that this is a fantastic music video. Two of the biggest names in hip-hop came together for one of the biggest songs of the and videos of 2020. Cardi and Megan almost feel like they’re in competition for who can deliver the raunchiest lines and who can look the best. In the end, we’re completely fine with calling it a tie for first. We know these two can both command a room all by themselves. So together, their combined talents made “WAP” one of the hottest videos of the decade.

#9: “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”

Lil Nas X
When “Old Town Road” hit it big, was anyone thinking we’d someday see its creator give a lap dance to the devil? Well, it happens in The “Montero” video. Lil Nas X ditches the cowboy hat for a truly unique and sensual presentation. Nas X shows off his range by playing a guitar-strumming musician, a snake, flower and so much more. Not only is this video sexy, funny, and highly entertaining, but it also represents an important milestone. Lil Nas X unashamedly and confidently embraced LGBTQ+ themes to create this sensational video. His commitment to being true to his art and himself elevated all the spicy imagery.

#8: “Lady Marmalade”

Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink
For the “Moulin Rouge!” film, Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink came together for one of the best pop songs and videos of the 2000s. After song producer Missy Elliott introduces us to the Moulin Rouge, we enter a world of fantastic outfits, colorful wigs, and French aesthetics. Every singer gets at least one extremely sexy outfit to shine in. They all absolutely own their looks and embrace the sensual nature of the video. Even decades after its release, few videos have come close to getting this many stunning singers in one place. We’ll definitely revisit this Moulin Rouge whenever we get the chance.

#7: “Girls on Film”

Duran Duran
MTV had only just begun when Duran Duran released the video for "Girls on Film." At the time, we had no idea just how provocative music videos would get. So, we were left speechless the first time we saw this on tv. While it might be less explicit than some contemporary videos, it’s still shocking in its unpredictability. We get everything from bikinis to massages to…a cowgirl? This one-of-a-kind and risqué video for one of the 80s’ most important bands drew a wave of controversy upon its release. Fortunately, the negative buzz didn’t stop “Girls on Film” from being fondly remembered.

#6: “Call on Me”

Eric Prydz (prits)
We don’t know if you’ve ever been to an aerobics class quite like this one. In the video for Swedish DJ's Eric Prydz's Call On Me, a class gets really into their workout as the song thumps behind them. The Steve Winwood sample playing throughout also adds to the incredible sight of all these bodies in motion. Throughout the video, there is plenty of thrusting, shaking and flexibility on display from all the class attendees. There are also incredibly intimate closeups of several members of the class. If this video inspires you to sign up for an aerobics class, that’s great! Just don’t expect a real session to be quite as steamy as this one.

#5: “I’m a Slave 4 U”

Britney Spears
Britney Spears warned us she’s “not that innocent” when she dropped “Oops!... I Did It Again.” But it was the “I’m a Slave 4 U” video that really showed she wasn’t bluffing. In this memorable musical short, Spears shakes off her innocent reputation as she talks about her love for dancing. While Spears busts some great moves in a sweaty sauna, it's obvious that she has another kind of physical activity in mind. Thankfully, this wasn’t the last time we’d see a combination of steamy lyrics and sensual imagery from Spears. She’d go on to mesmerize us again in music videos like “Toxic.” (x-ref)

#4: “Any Time, Any Place”

Janet Jackson
The impact of Janet Jackson’s contributions to pop music cannot be overstated. And the power of this sensual music video can’t be either. When Jackson visits a romantic partner, things quickly escalate to clothing removal and intimate touching. It somehow just manages to avoid fully going into rated-R territory. However, it's still striking in how boldly and beautifully it portrays sexuality and physical bonding. Jackson and her partner easily command every frame they appear in together. We’d watch this video any time and any place. Well, maybe not just any place.

#3: “Dirrty”

Christina Aguilera feat. Redman
By now, wholesome pop stars shedding their “good girl” images for something more dangerous is a well-known concept. But Christina Aguilera shocked many with this song and its accompanying video. Aguilera indeed gets down and dirty as she enters a boxing ring where she's both dancing and fighting. As she sings about tightly packed bodies and sweating from head to toe, we get a little hot under the collar ourselves. At the time, many took umbrage with the bold way Aguilera presented herself for “Dirrty”. But nearly 20 years later, this video is both a 2000s classic and ahead of its time.

#2: “Wicked Game”

Chris Isaak
Chris Isaak has a voice that’s so beautiful and sultry that he can make you blush just by listening to it. In the video for his most famous song, Isaak sings to and embraces the object of his obsession on a Hawaiian beach. The scantily clad supermodel Helena Christensen instantly captures our attention and never lets go. For some reason, the gorgeous black-and-white and sepia-toned cinematography adds another layer of sensuality upon the already provocative imagery. We’re honestly still shocked at what they get away with in this video. However, the artistic intent keeps it from feeling trashy. We couldn’t help falling in love with this song and video.

#1: “Justify My Love”

Madonna
Madonna has made headlines for her music videos several times during her legendary career. “Justify My Love” arguably presents Madonna at her most sexually adventurous. Filmed in black-and-white, this video starts with the Queen of Pop being incredibly sensual by herself in a hallway. It doesn’t take long for her to attract the attention of a handsome suitor. After this point, we’re shown a variety of tight outfits and very intimate scenes. While the video gets surreal, the alluring lyrics and performers keep the narrative steamy. Madonna’s song caused such a stir that MTV ended up banning it from airing. Even though it was too hot for some networks, we’re not afraid to justify our love for this video.
