Top 10 Badass Women in the Arrowverse

These DC women are not to be messed with. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Badass Women in the Arrowverse.

For this list, we're looking at the toughest and fiercest ladies from all of the CW’s superhero shows. We’re making our picks based on a combination of their skills, greatest feats and impact they’ve had on the Arrowverse. Since some of their greatest accomplishments give away key plot points, we’re throwing up the spoiler signal.

#10: Thea Queen / Speedy

Over the course of “Arrow”, Thea Queen went from being an irresponsible party girl to a savvy nightclub owner. But after being kidnapped and betrayed multiple times, she needed another big change. She sought out her father, League of Assassins member Malcolm Merlyn, and learned his techniques. Thea became proficient in hand-to-hand combat and mastered multiple weapons. Her skills were vital to Team Arrow as the heroine named Speedy. Thea’s saved the Green Arrow’s life, defeated the villain Anarky in combat and has come back from the brink of death twice. Although she’s retired her red hood, we don’t recommend picking a fight with her.

#9: Dinah Drake / Black Canary

After Laurel Lance was killed in battle it seemed we’d never see a Black Canary again. (*xref) Enter Dinah Drake. Drake was a normal cop until a particle accelerator explosion gave her superpowers. Drake can use her sonic scream ability to disorient opponents or throw them back. Or she can take them out with her trusty bo staff. Drake’s mission to avenge her partner initially made her a threat. But after meeting Team Arrow she decided to fight for good again. By day she’s a Star City police lieutenant. By night she is fearlessly facing down supervillains and honoring the memory of a great heroine.

#8: Lena Luthor

Lena Luthor has always managed to defy expectations. When her villainous brother was jailed for trying to kill Superman, she took over his company to change the world for the better. In addition to being a great entrepreneur, Lena is a talented scientist and engineer. She was able to neutralize a deadly virus and helped turn a weapon meant for Superman into the device that stopped an alien invasion. Despite everything Lena’s done, people constantly doubt her and assume she’ll turn out evil like her family. Fortunately for them, she never lets their opinions stop her from doing the right thing.

#7: Cat Grant

Make way for the Queen of all Media. Cat Grant started as an assistant at the Daily Planet. Her ambition drove her to create CatCo WorldWide Media, a company committed to impactful journalism. Grant built her empire by being unapologetic to critics, employees and friends. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t compassionate. After giving Supergirl her name, Cat continued to support the heroine with inspiring speeches. And if Supergirl’s enemies need to be taken down a peg, Cat always has some cutting insults ready to go. She even managed to make Daxamite Queen Rhea listen during an invasion, so if you hear her talking, take notes.

#6: Felicity Smoak

Felicity Smoak may not look intimidating in person, but behind a keyboard she can be terrifying. In college, Felicity managed to create a computer virus capable of hacking any server. Fortunately for the internet, she decided to use her talents to become the vigilante hacker named Overwatch. Felicity has shown that she doesn’t need a computer to be amazing. She’s rushed into gunfire, operated the A.T.O.M. suit and knocked out a Nazi. And when an ambush left Felicity paralyzed, she not only remained CEO of Palmer Tech, but continued her vigilante work. We can’t imagine a team Arrow without Felicity watching over.

#5: Amaya Jiwe / Vixen

Amaya Jiwe has been a heroine for decades. Technically. Amaya started her career as a member of the Justice Society in the 1940’s. After her teammate Rex Tyler was killed by Reverse Flash, she joined the time traveling Legends of Tomorrow to take him down. Amaya fights with her Anansi totem, which grants her the power of any animal she summons. When combined with her fighting skills she becomes a fearsome warrior. Plus, she once spoke with a dinosaur. Amaya’s versatility and strength made her into a force of nature. You do not want to be prey on her next hunt.

#4: Alex Danvers

She has defeated countless warriors and saved heroes in National City...without using superpowers. Alex Danvers is an agent at the DEO, an organization that fights alien threats. And she’s very good at her job. Alex has faced off with enemies that have given Supergirl trouble. She’s regularly put in charge of her fellow agents and temporarily lead the DEO. And when Alex is pushed into a corner, she always finds a way to get the upper hand. Outside of her job, Alex has the wisdom to mentor her adoptive sister Supergirl and the courage to live openly as a gay woman. She’s an inspiration, a fighter and an undeniable badass.

#3: Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost

In the first two seasons of “The Flash”, Caitlin Snow saved Team Flash with her brilliant ideas and medical expertise. But after the Flashpoint event, she gained the ability to turn into the meta human Killer Frost. In Caitlin’s Killer Frost form, she gains limitless icy powers that can take out other metas and slow down even the Flash. Although her alter ego is pretty cool, the original Caitlin has still pulled off some impressive feats. She helped operate on herself while still conscious and stopped Flash without her powers. Caitlin can have trouble balancing her two identities, but whether she shows up holding a scalpel or icicle, we’d be glad to have her watching our back.

#2: Sara Lance

This assassin knows a thing or two about death. Sara Lance nearly drowned at sea twice before being discovered by the League of Assassins. She mastered their techniques and returned home as a vigilante named Canary. Sara held the title until she was ambushed and killed. Luckily, she was resurrected by her sister and later recruited to travel across time and save history. Sara’s deadly talents and natural leadership got her elected as the captain of her time-traveling team. She definitely earned the spot when she gave up a chance to resurrect her sister in order to save reality. Sara’s courage and loyalty have made her into more than a hero- she’s a legend.

Before our top pick saves the day, here are some honorable mentions.

Iris West

Lyla Michaels

Moira Queen

#1: Kara Zor-El / Kara Danvers / Supergirl

At age 13, Kara Zor-el was sent from her dying planet to protect her cousin on Earth. By the time she arrived, her cousin had become Superman and she began posing as human. Although Kara tried to hide her superpowers, destiny called her to become Supergirl. Her heroic acts could fill multiple lists but here are some highlights. She’s faced a gunman without her powers, knocked out Superman, and survived an explosion in space. Throughout Supergirl’s heroic deeds, her incredible compassion and belief in good has given hope to strangers and fellow heroes. There is seemingly no limit to what she can do or the people she’ll inspire along the way.
