Top 10 Stage Musicals Based on Non-Musical Films

For this list we all consider any musical that has premiered on either Broadway or the West End that was adapted from a film that wasn't classed as a musical, so the majority of the movie can't comprise of singing; if the stage musical was later re-adapted to a movie musical, we will still take it into consideration.

    1The Producers
    Arguably Mel Brooks' magnum opus, the 1967 film earned the writer and director an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay before the 2001 musical adaptation won him three Tony Awards, including Best Musical; in doing so, Brooks became only the 8th person to complete the rare feat of winning an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards).
