The 1959 version starring Charlton Heston won 11 Academy Awards, but the 1925 version was equally epic for its day and despite initially losing money due to its huge costs it remains well received to this day.

A case could be made to include the 1992 movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula. However, the original Nosferatu did not receive the full rights to Stoker's original story and made several alterations. The 1979 adaptation stays truer to these changes even though Nosferatu was closer to Stoker's work than the Dracula films that followed

The best known is the three hour and forty-five minute long 1956 epic. Both it and the 1923 silent film were directed and produced by Cecil B. DeMille with huge budgets, big productions and critical and commercial success
