David Bowie was busy in '77. Not only did he release two albums of his own but he also helped produce both of these albums with Iggy.

I think it is also important to note that in that year guitarist Brian May contracted hepatitis and later had an ulcer, which meant he was not present at most of the recordings and added his parts later; nonetheless, there is a lot of guitar on the Sheer Heart Attack album
