Top 5 Actors Who Could Replace Henry Cavill as Superman

It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s NOT Henry Cavill?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the DC cinematic universe may be in trouble on account of losing Henry Cavill, the man we’ve called Superman for the past three films: 2013’s “Man of Steel”, 2016’s “Batman v. Superman” and 2017’s “Justice League.  Apparently, Warner Bros. had been trying to get Cavill to do a Superman cameo in “Shazam!” this coming April and while it wasn’t kryptonite that scared him away, the studio’s recent focus on creating a Supergirl film and the unlikelihood that they make another solo Superman film for a while, may have. Let’s look at some of our other options.

#5: Justin Theroux

We love our Man of Steel, but what about this Man of Blue Steel?  He wrote and produced both “Zoolander” films and starred in the TV series “Parks and Recreation”, so we know he has a sense of humour, but there’s more to Justin Theroux. He’s been behind the camera, writing and producing for multiple high-profile projects such as “Iron Man 2“, making him familiar with the inner workings of a superhero universe. He also has experience on-screen in dramatic contexts such as in David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” and in the “The Girl on the Train”. What can’t he do?!

#4: Armie Hammer

He blew us away and brought us to tears last year with his performance as Oliver in “Call Me By Your Name”, and he showed us his ability to multi-task by playing not one, but BOTH Winklevoss twins in the biographical drama film “The Social Network” in 2010. He even starred in “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” alongside Henry Cavill, so he has probably received a few tips from the current Superman himself. Armie Hammer has gained tons of attention in Hollywood lately and we think it’s about time he put on a cape.

#3: Channing Tatum

Faster than a speeding bullet? More powerful than a locomotive? He’s pretty close with his repertoire of physically demanding roles from “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (2013), to “White House Down” (2013), to “Foxcatcher” (2014) and has recently built up his credibility as an actor through working with notable directors like Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers. Channing Tatum is also set to star in the 2019 X-Men spinoff “Gambit”, meaning he knows a thing or two about comic books and superhero universes as well, so perhaps the DC Universe is next. After all, he did play Superman in “The Lego Batman Movie”, so he definitely has the voice for the part!

#2: Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan has been receiving an uproar of speculation surrounding his potential as the new Superman. Given the amount of time between now and the next Superman film, Warner Bros. is apparently looking to go in an entirely new direction with the character, so why not follow in the footsteps of progression and celebrate diversity by casting a black actor for such an iconic role. Besides, Jordan already has the credentials given his experience playing Johnny Storm in the 2015 reboot of Marvel’s “Fantastic Four”, and the villain Erik Killmonger in MCU’s “Black Panther“.

#1: Matt Bomer

I mean…if his striking resemblance to the comic book character and even Henry Cavill himself wasn’t enough, Matt Bomer’s versatility on-screen might just bump him into the lead. He’s known for his TV roles on shows such as “Chuck”, “White Collar” and “American Horror Story“, but has also worked on several popular films like “Magic Mike” and “Winter’s Tale”, alongside starring in a few successful independent films. Matt Bomer can dance, he can sing and we’re sure he’d have no trouble flying.

What do you think about the news of Cavill leaving? Is it true? Vote here on who you think could be the next Superman!
