They’re No Laughing Matter
Clowns have certainly gotten a bad reputation in recent years, especially due to their twisted portrayals in both films and video games. The latter of which has managed to create some truly harrowing villains, each using clown makeup as a visage before they butcher their victims. Needless to say, these frightful fellows are the last people you want to attend a child’s birthday party.
#3: Adam the Clown
“Dead Rising” (2006)
The only thing more terrifying than the zombies running amok in this shopping mall would be the psychopaths who have apparently all come out of the woodwork. The most sinister of these by far is Adam, who has traded in his juggling balls for a pair of chainsaws and has been putting them to good use on unsuspecting survivors. If that wasn’t creepy enough, he eventually ends his own life laughing manically while jumping on his chainsaws.
#2: Sweet Tooth
“Twisted Metal” series (1995-2012)
Whether he’s swinging around his blade or using an ice cream truck with rockets attached to it, Needles Kane lives for destruction. His hulking frame and creepy clown mask don’t help matters either. With a love of murder and overwhelming desire to win the Twisted Metal tournaments, this chaotic beast will always choose the violent route. Heck, he’s even cut the head off an omnipotent being without a second thought.
#1: The Joker
“Batman: Arkham” series (2009-15)
Who would have guessed the villain from Batman: The Animated Series could be legitimately scary? With a much grittier and sadistic take on the character, Mark Hamill’s Joker put the Dark Knight through all kinds of fresh hell. From the asylum all the way to the inside of his mind, we were finally able to see the Clown Prince of Crime’s ruthlessness in a far more mature manner. That’s one way to put a smile on our faces.
