Stars, Snubs and Stranger Things
The 2018 Emmy Awards are shaping up to be quite the event, considering it won’t only be a night of firsts for certain actors and shows, but also how regular series darlings have been dropping out like flies. Out of all the many glaring omissions and startling newcomers, these five surprises certainly stood out to us the most.
#5: Not So Modern Family
After eight years it’s finally happened; Modern Family has been left out of the race for Outstanding Comedy. Many would say it was long overdue, though we would have at least expected the likes of The Good Place to be the one to overtake it, but no, that got snubbed as well for regular favourites like Curb Your Enthusiasm.Â
#4: No Throne For Jon or Daenerys
Game of Thrones remains on point for several awards, including best Supporting Actor nominations for the likes of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. However, Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke are nowhere to be seen, which is kind of bizarre given how both had arguably their biggest season yet. Apparently not even Targaryen love-making can earn you an Emmy nod.
#3: Jessica Biel’s Sinful Success
We’re not saying that Jessica Biel doesn’t deserve a chance to win for her powerhouse performance in Sinner, we just still can’t get over how good she is. Who would have guessed she could go from something like the Total Recall remake to playing such an emotionally devastated individual like Cora? Well played Jessica!
#2: Sanda Oh Making History
If you loved this actress on Grey’s Anatomy, then you owe it to yourself to see her walk a dangerous line in Killing Eve, whose gritty tale of obsession, death and kick-ass action has earned the acclaim of fans and critics everywhere. Not only is Sanda Oh awesome in the lead role, but she stands to potentially be the first Asian actress to win a leading role in a drama!
#1: No Love For Mandy Moore
Wow, the Pearson family got snubbed! While Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown are still in the running, we can’t help but notice that there’s no love for Mandy Moore. This is Us’ resident matriarch has proven herself to be all engrossing whether as a young mother or a grief-stricken widow wandering through her twilight years. Let’s hope 2019 shows a change of fortune for Rebecca.
