The Simpsons olympics Curling Homer Marge

Simpsons Predicted USA’s Olympic Curling Victory

The USA  might’ve scored an Olympic gold medal for curling this past Saturday, but The Simpsons writers deserve a yellow medal for predicting this victory eight years in advance.

In a Season 21 episode, Boy Meets Curl, Homer and Marge join a curling team and compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics along with Agnes and Seymour Skinner. They ultimately prevail, beating out their Swedish rivals. What makes this so ironic is that the US men’s curling team didn’t just win the gold in real life this year, but they also triumphed over – that’s right – Sweden!

Of course this isn’t the first time The Simpsons miraculously predicted the future. In the Season 11 episode, Bart to the Future, which aired in the year 2000, Lisa is elected President of the United Sates. Although Lisa is honored to be America’s first straight female president, she unfortunately inherited a major budget crisis created by her predecessor, Donald Trump. In a 1998 episode, When You Dish Upon a Star, 20th Century Fox is listed as “A Division of Walt Disney Co.” Jump ahead almost twenty years, Disney bought 21st Century Fox in a landmark deal. Oh, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Lady Gaga recycled a few ideas from the 2012 episode, Lisa Goes Gaga, during the Super Bowl LI halftime show. Well, when you’re on the air for almost thirty years, you’re bound get a few things correct.

It’s hard to say which Simpsons premonition will come into fruition next, although we’d love to a Lazy Man Reclining Toilet Chair hit the market somewhere down the line. For now, at least Homer can take solace in knowing that the 2018 Olympic Winter Games are over, which means his favorite shows are coming back.
