Top 3 Video Game Characters That Refuse To Die

Evil Never Dies, Apparently

Everybody loves a villain, especially one that simply refuses to lay down and let the hero walk all over them. The best antagonists, especially in video games, are often the ones that are always a step ahead, the ones that seem untouchable right until their very end, making their eventual defeat all the sweeter. That being said, there are a select few bad guys out there whose concept of death is apparently akin to a revolving door, since they just keep coming back!

We’re not saying that these are ill-written characters or that we get tired of facing off against them, it’s just that it’s painfully obvious by this point that no matter how many times we send them to oblivion, we know they’ll come right back when the next entry in the franchise is released.

#3: Nightmare
“Soulcalibur” series (1995-)

As long as Soul Edge exists, they’ll always be an Azure Knight to wield it. This living sword has had numerous hosts over the franchise, most notably protagonist Siegfried, turning them into monstrous warriors hellbent on devouring the souls of anyone they can get its hands on. Despite the fact it always ends up getting shattered into a million pieces, Nightmare somehow manages to find a way to survive and snatch itself up a new body. Someone really needs to think of a better way of disposing of those shards.

#2: Bowser
“Super Mario” series (1985-2017)

Mario may not be the type to brutally massacre his foe after a boss fight, but that’s not to say that the Koopa King hasn’t met some rather grizzly ends over the decades. He’s been tossed into pools of lava more times than we can count, reduced to nothing but bones, shot to pieces, plummeted off cliffs, even swallowed up by the vacuum of space, yet he manages to brush it off just in time for the next game of Mario Tennis. You have to admire that kind of commitment in a monarch.

#1: Ganondorf
“The Legend of Zelda” series (1986-2017)

Considering how each entry in this franchise gives us new incarnations of our beloved cast, not only is it highly unlikely we will ever see the end of this Gerudo, but you can expect that with every return he’s only going to get stronger. He’s been bested by the Master Sword countless times, and yet whenever we return to Hyrule for another grand adventure, he’s there waiting for us, itching for the chance to transform into a deadlier version of the Dark Beast. You can’t keep the King of Evil down for long.
