Top 3 Anime Animals That Would Make Terrible Pets

Don’t Feed Them After Midnight!

They may look like bundles of cuteness, but you you mustn’t be fooled, beneath their adorable gaze lies a creature of pure malice and dread. At their best, you can expect them to be mischievous and scare the seven bells out of you. At their worst, you can expect to visit an early grave. As a result, you should probably reconsider snatching one up to take home.

Cute but deadly is certainly a style that anime has managed to nail with a lot of its critters, but we feel that these three best embody the concept.

Fair warning, there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

#3: Chiyo’s Dad
“Azumanga Daioh” (1997-)

He may not be in the business of devouring souls, but that doesn’t mean seeing this guy inside our heads each night wouldn’t make for a little slice of hell. As Chiyo’s possible father, this cat creature made for one crazy cameo, with each appearance only managing to further unnerve us. The fact he can materialise in dreams and has tentacles for arms just adds to the creepiness factor. Bad kitty.

#2: Monokuma
“Danganronpa: The Animated Series” (2013)

Teddy bears are supposed to bring comfort, but the only thing you can count on with this little monster is a deadly dose of punishment time. As the sentient mascot for the mutual killing games, Monokuma was made to look like the orchestrator of the student’s suffering. In truth, he was just a cover for the psychotic Junko and her pursuit of endless despair. We’re sure he’s all kinds of plush, but do you want to take home a construction secretly controlled by a mass murderer?

#1: Kyubey
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)

On first glance, he certainly looks like the most adorable creature to ever come out of the magical girl genre. He’s cute, charming and seeks out noble champions to battle against the threats of witches. All you have to do is sign a contract with him. In hindsight, it’s clear that Kyubey might just be the fluffy equivalent of the devil. His contracts rob young girls of their souls, eventually turn them into witches, all the while he and his kind feed on the aftereffects. He is a cruel and calculating being that will always swoop in and manipulate a situation to his benefit. So yeah, definitely not someone you want to take home.
