It’s interesting how things have come full circle for writer/director/producer/actor/”American hero” Tommy Wiseau. His 2003 feature debut, The Room, was widely considered one of the worst movies ever made upon release. Through midnight showings and word of mouth, however, it eventually gained a reputation as the best worst movie ever made. Wiseau’s bizarre filmmaking process would inspire the 2013 book, The Disaster Artist, and a 2017 movie of the same name. The aforementioned film picked up several awards and Wiseau actually got up onstage with James Franco at the Golden Globes.
With an ever-growing cult status, Tommy Wiseau may never be viewed as a modern Spielberg or Scorsese, but we’re always fascinated to see what he has in store for us. Wiseau recently announced that his next film will be entitled Scary Love. With director Jennifer Juniper Stratford helming the project, Wiseau plays “a man destined to change the future.” The film’s first trailer, which has something of a Blade Runner vibe to it, sees Wiseau once again sporting a pair of sunglasses and being torn apart over a woman he once loved.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scary Love is “a science fiction tale told in the style of classic B-movies and outfitted with practical special effects, laser beams and lunatic ideas which are guaranteed to make it the next big midnight movie hit.”
It’s currently unknown when the film will be made available or how it will be released. If you’re eager for more of Wiseau, though, you can catch him in Best F(r)iends alongside his buddy/co-star Greg Sestero. Part One of this black comedy will be released on March 30th with Part Two coming out in June 2018.
