Top 50 Most Hated Anime Characters of All Time

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most hated characters in all of Anime. #50: Makoto Hanamiya “Kuroko's Basketball” (2012-15) Nicknamed the Bad Boy, he’s one of the legendary Uncrowned Kings, but he’s also one of the most hated villains in sports anime. Hanamiya isn’t just a thug, he’s a genius with a 160 IQ. Instead of playing fair, he uses his brilliant mind to orchestrate hidden, violent fouls right under the referees' noses. He actively targets his opponents, ordering his teammates to intentionally injure them. Fans absolutely despise him because he genuinely enjoys disgracing the sport. For Hanamiya, winning through cruelty is all that matters, and he is fiercely proud of the misdeeds he orchestrates. #49: Hiroshi Uchiyamada “Great Teacher Onizuka” (1999-2000)

Not every hated anime character is a traditional villain. Sometimes, petty bureaucracy is its own special kind of evil. As the Vice Principal of Holy Forest Academy, Uchiyamada cares way more about test scores and school reputation than actual students. When he isn’t obsessing over his beloved Toyota Cresta, he’s actively scheming to get Onizuka fired. He represents the absolute worst of institutional thinking, swapping out real teaching for petty power trips. No matter how many times Onizuka saves his life, Uchiyamada never learns his lesson. #48: Nagisa Akutsu “Ao Ashi” (2022-)

As if entering a high level junior soccer squad wasn’t tough enough, Ashito has this absolute bastard to contend with. For whatever reason, Nagisa singles out the plucky young soccer hopeful and derides him any time they come into contact. Typical bullying fare right? Nope - Nothing is off the table when it comes to bringing Ashito down, his abilities, his anxieties, even the poor financial condition of his mother. Who knew that the world of junior soccer could be so cutthroat? #47: Excalibur

“Soul Eater” (2008-09) Here’s a weird one: a character so annoying that you don’t know whether to hate him or respect the author’s audacity. Excalibur from Soul Eater is a legendary holy sword, but he’s also the most insufferable being in the entire anime. He drives everyone to the brink of madness with his endless rambling, his 1,000 absurd rules, and his massive ego. The joke works because it’s entirely intentional. But knowing he’s meant to irritate you doesn't make him any less infuriating. #46: Masao Murasako “Shiki” (2010) Few things in horror are more unsettling than a coward who survives while better people die. Masao from Shiki is the perfect example of that. He is petty, whiny, and deeply bitter toward his own family. He is thoroughly unlikable as a human, and somehow, becoming a vampire makes him even worse. Even when the story follows his perspective, you cannot help but root against him. In a show filled with complex characters fighting to survive, Masao stands out as someone whose downfall feels long overdue. #45: Akito Sohma “Fruits Basket” (2019-21) As the "God" of the Zodiac, Akito Sohma rules the cursed family through absolute emotional and physical terror. Raised in isolation as a male heir by her toxic mother, Akito projects a deep fear of abandonment into brutal, systematic abuse. While the story later reveals generations of family trauma, it never excuses the harm caused. Fans remain fiercely divided on the eventual redemption arc, but few dispute the lingering dread Akito’s tyranny leaves behind. #44: Naoka Ueno “A Silent Voice” (2016) Naoka Ueno is one of the most hated characters in anime because her cruelty feels uncomfortably real. She isn’t a cartoon villain; she’s that toxic person who genuinely believes she is the victim. She’s despised because she shows zero remorse. After ruthlessly targeting Shoko as a child, she still blames her for "ruining" their past. She also betrayed Shoya, scapegoating him to save her own skin. Later, she tries to erase Shoya’s growth and even physically assaults Shoko. Fans hate Ueno because she represents a real-world monster we’ve all met, making her impossible to forgive. #43: Kyubey “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011) Wide eyes, soft fur, a cute voice and absolutely zero conscience. Kyubey is utterly loathed because they completely ruin the "adorable mascot" trope. They trick vulnerable teenage girls into magical contracts, casually hiding the horrifying truth: they are destined to despair and mutate into monstrous Witches. Why? So their alien race, the Incubators can harvest their souls to power the universe. What makes Kyubey truly infuriating isn't malice, it’s their creepy, unblinking indifference. Kyubey views grieving children as mere livestock, and that cold, robotic logic makes them one of the most hated characters in all of Magical Girl anime. #42: Super Guy Jin

“New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” (2025)

The newest series of Panty and Stocking had plenty of funny moments, but this annoying weeb character quickly wore thin. Super Guy Jin, whose name is an obvious pun on the Japanese word Gaijin adds absolutely nothing to the show, with his grating voice constantly blurting out his love for all things Japanese. He could have been a decent one and done joke, but nope, he keeps coming back with the same repeated schtick and adds absolutely nothing to the scene. This character is a pretty big blight on what was otherwise an excellent comeback for the Angels. #41: Mohammad Alai Jr

“Baki” (2018-20) As the son of a famous boxer, Mohammad Alai Jr took smug confidence to a whole new level, making him incredibly annoying to watch. What really made everyone really despise him, though, was how he tried to steal Kozue, Baki's girlfriend. He even went as far as proposing to her right in front of Baki. We seriously couldn’t wait to see him get his comeuppance. Luckily, we got total satisfaction when his flashy boxing style completely crashed against the brutal, terrifying reality of an underground death-match against Jack Hanma and later Baki. #40: Yakumo Oomori “Tokyo Ghoul” (2014) Better known as "Yamori" or the 13th Ward's "Jason," this Aogiri Tree captain is detested by anime fans for his pure, unadulterated cruelty. He is a total sadist who learned his horrific torture methods from his own past abuser. When he captures Ken Kaneki, he turns it into a twisted game, forcing a centipede into Kaneki’s ear while casually cracking his fingers to the beat of the screaming. This brutal nightmare completely breaks Kaneki, triggering his iconic white-haired transformation. Watching him get his comeuppance is one of the most satisfying moments in the series. #39: Mister “Gachiakuta” (2025-) Before we get into why Mister is absolute scum, we just wanna give a shoutout to Amo’s mother for also being a terrible human being who sold her daughter away to him. Mister is a human trafficker who showers Amo with gifts after purchasing her, but it’s all a cover for his disgusting desires. He grooms and abuses her, using his twisted take on love to absolve him of his crimes. During a dispute over the Watchman Series boots, Amo goes into a rage and ends up killing him when she pushes him out of the tower, but unfortunately all the psychological damage he inflicted to her had already been done. #38: Akira Takaoka

“Assassination Classroom” (2015-16)

Military instructors are notoriously brutal, but this sadist weaponizes abuse under the guise of "family." Ruthlessly exploiting Class 3-E, Takaoka only craves the glory of killing Koro-sensei. We all cheered when he was initially fired, but his vengeful return proved way more unhinged. When his twisted training methods fail, he turns to straight-up terrorism, poisoning the students and blowing up their only cure. Ultimately, Nagisa completely shattered his mind, using mastered assassin techniques to utterly humiliate him twice over. #37: Weevil Underwood

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-04) Weevil Underwood is easily the most annoying villain in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. Right from the start, he cements himself as a total cheater by throwing Yugi’s priceless Exodia cards right into the ocean. He isn't a powerful, respectable rival, he’s just a petty pest. Weevil relies on sneaky plots, sabotage, and an incredibly irritating laugh instead of actual skill. But the best part? His massive ego is completely unmatched by his actual duelling talent. He loses constantly, making his endless arrogance absolutely hilarious to watch. He’s not a worthy opponent; he’s just a cowardly troublemaker who ruins the fun. #36: Koichi Shido

“High School of the Dead” (2010) Often in stories like this, when the apocalypse hits, people reveal who they truly are and Koichi Shido is the perfect example of this. Instead of protecting his students, Shido abandons the weak to be eaten by zombies. He uses the chaos to build a fanatical cult, manipulating traumatized teenagers into worshiping him. Driven by a twisted need for power inherited from his corrupt politician father, Shido turns his survival group into a mini-dictatorship. He wraps his sick, sadistic impulses in the language of leadership. Shido is the perfect example of the ultimate zombie trope: the human monster who takes over when society collapses. #35: Cioccolata “JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (2018) It’s hard to get fans to hate you more than the main villain, but Cioccolata managed to do it. Cioccolata has zero redeeming qualities, he’s just a pure, sadistic psycho who laughs while torturing and cutting up his victims. He even unleashed his mold Stand Green Day on Rome, killing thousands of innocent people just for fun. Between his creepy, permanent smile and his deeply disturbing, pet-like relationship with his sidekick Secco, he genuinely makes viewers' skin crawl. #34: Tonpa “Hunter x Hunter” (2011-14) Unlike all the other entrants in the Hunter Exam, Tonpa doesn’t actually want to pass. The self proclaimed “Rookie Crusher” actually wants to cheat the system and take out as many entrants as possible with deviously underhanded tactics, which frustrated us all to no end. One of his worst ways is offering spiked drinks to others to knock them out. Thankfully Tonpa finally got him comeuppance, after trying to trick Leorio, he gets kicked right in the face by Kurapika, sending him spinning. To add insult to injury he then gets tied up in an incredibly embarrassing manner. #33: Regulus Corneas “Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World” (2016-) Power and entitlement are a dangerous combo, and nobody shows that better than Regulus Corneas. As the Sin Archbishop of Greed, Regulus constantly rants about his personal rights. Yet, he denies those exact rights to everyone else, especially the dozens of women he keeps captive as his "wives." His obsession even drives him to kidnap Emilia in order to force her into becoming his newest bride. His authority, "Lion's Heart," grants him total physical invulnerability by freezing his body's time. This means heroes and viewers are forced to sit through his endless, hypocritical speeches before anyone can even touch him. When he finally goes down, the payoff is massive, but sitting through his circular logic really tests your patience. #32: The Baby

“Monster” (2004-05) In Naoki Urasawa's psychological thriller Monster, "The Baby" is not a literal infant, but an adult Neo-Nazi extremist who preaches racial purity and brute strength while being entirely dependent on bodyguards for survival. It’s this massive hypocrisy that defines him, as he talks about total dominance but can't even take care of himself. A master manipulator, he uses vitriolic hate speech as a tool for control, desperately working to position the enigmatic Johan Liebert as a new leader. In a show filled with terrifying monsters, his pathetic self-delusion stands out, proving that even a ridiculous character such as himself can be deeply horrifying. #31: Dino Golzine “Banana Fish” (2018) The word "evil" gets thrown around a lot in anime, but Golzine actually earns it. As a powerful mafia godfather, he spent years abusing, trafficking, and exploiting the main character, Ash Lynx, starting when he was just a child. To Golzine, vulnerable young people are just disposable objects used to build his criminal empire. What makes him so terrifying is how classy he acts on the outside. He wears expensive suits, hangs out with corrupt politicians, and acts like an aristocrat to hide the absolute rot underneath. He’s a chilling reminder that real-world evil rarely looks monstrous on the surface. #30: Ribrianne

“Dragon Ball Super” (2015-18)

The Tournament of Power, being the multiversal slugfest that it is, was bound to have at least one combatant that didn’t gel with fans for one reason or another. Right at the top is Ribrianne, and her incessant bragging about the power of love. Look, we’re all for romance driving a character to throw hands…it’s just that Ribrianne’s approach to her lovey dovey creed makes her akin to Sailor Moon with the annoyance dialed up to eleven. It certainly made her defeat at the hand of Android 18 all the more satisfying – you know – someone who is actually in love?

#29: Tracy

“Pokémon” (1997-)

Yeah, it’s low hanging fruit, but come on – Brock was the man. He was the super simp we loved to see fail. He was funny and compelling. And then he left, and in his place, we were given the most milquetoast companion we’ve had the displeasure of meeting. Tracy is just fog. His character has nowhere near the strength of personality as Brock has, and was a much weaker foil for Ash and Misty as they continued their Johto journeys. Why they kept bringing this fool back we’ll never know.

#28: Ichigo

“Darling in the Franxx” (2018)

Remember the time that #bitchigo went wild on social media? Well, it wasn’t due to fans suddenly deciding the blue-haired mecha pilot needed to be taken down a peg, it was all down to one scene. Just a single scene, in which Ichigo destroyed every ounce of likability. Despite Hiro clearly wanting to find Zero Two before she’s taken away, Ichigo did everything she could to keep him at bay – including forcibly kissing him and confessing her love at the worst possible time. Well, that waifu war ended rather snappily.

#27: Ren Yamai

“Komi Can’t Communicate” (2021-22)

Socially inept and communicatively impaired Komi dreams of gaining a hundred friends. And while most have bold, hilarious or adorable personalities, there’s one from her ever expanding friend group that we have never truly accepted. And that’s Yamai. Why? Because she’s a psychotic stalker who worships Komi and was willing to kidnap Tadano because he was getting too close. That’s not endearing. That’s criminal behavior. Slap the cuffs on her and get her away from Komi!

#26: Yukiteru Amano

“Future Diary” (2011-12)

You know you’ve reached the bottom of the barrel when people are more sympathetic towards the crazy, murderous, axe-wielding yandere than the stale-bread main character! Then again, Yuki is hardly innocent in the whole affair. Not only was he stupid enough to accept the killing game for the chance to become the God of Time, but he tried to use Yuno as a tool to help him win. Because manipulating a killer with a few loose screws and a hardcore crush couldn’t possibly backfire, right?

#25: Bai Daizora

“Beyblade Burst QuadDrive” (2021-22)

Beyblade Burst knocked it out the park with their first lead character, Valt Aoi. But with each new installment, we got diminishing returns in this department and we ultimately ended up with the insufferable Bel Daizora. A little kid who roleplays as a demon lord is fun on paper, but the execution was the worst kind of diabolical. He’s easily one of the most annoying characters in the franchise. He’s a jerk to his friends, refuses to accept defeat, interrupts hyped up moments, and worst of all, he beats some of the fan favorite bladers with ease. All the while the rest of the cast laughs it off and says “oh that wacky little fella - isn’t he just the best?”. Honestly, it’s no wonder the Burst series ended after his run.

#24: Mika Shimotsuki

“Psycho-Pass” (2012-23)

Following such a sublime sci-fi series like the first season of Psycho-Pass was always going to be challenging, but it became downright impossible when they booted off leading man Kogami to god knows where, and strapped best girl Akane with a sub-par group of supporting characters. This is especially true for Shimotsuki. She’s insubordinate, impulsive, prejudiced and so naive that she plays right into the villain’s hands. She was an eyesore at the best of times, and was one of the major reasons this sequel fumbled so hard.

#23: Kakeru Ryuen

“Classroom of the Elite” (2017-)

Turns out in a school system where points are everything and your future living standards are on the line, hooligans and violent sadists still find a way to worm their way in. His intellect only offset by his love of instilling fear in others, Ryuen became instantly loathsome due to how much he enjoyed harassing others. Beating down the vulnerable with his fists or by blackmail, it was all entertainment to him. You can imagine the catharsis when we saw Ayanokoji beat the tar out of the dragon boy until he was left shaking in fear.

#22: Alois Trancy

“Black Butler” (2008-10)

He’s the face of the poorly received sequel series that seemed to contradict the first season and source material, so Alois already had a handicap when he entered the arena of young masters and demon butlers. The fact he’s a spineless, clingy and oh so arrogant little shit was all his doing though. We’re not exactly inclined to feel sympathy for a character, when they spend the first episode gouging out the eye of their maid before acting like a rejected school girl every time they fail to gain the attention of the butler they’re boning for.

#21: Kirino Kousaka

“Oreimo” (2010-13)

Aggressive and unlikeable despite harboring a secret that makes her a hypocrite, steals the idiot love interest away from the actual best girl of the series, and ends up going all the way with her brother. Any of these factors would immediately make a character’s popularity plummet, and Kirino accomplished all three. Sure, her brother’s an absolute moron for thinking with his junk and going the incest route, but it’s Kirino’s deplorable attitude and sense of entitlement that garnered most of the backlash. Why couldn’t we have just focused on Kuroneko?

#20: Chris Thorndyke

“Sonic X” (2003-05)

You know all those creepy folks online that are obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog to uncomfortable levels? Well, they’ve got nothing on Christopher Bloody Thorndyke. At his best, he was about as tolerable as Amy Rose, at his worst, he was a whiny human sidekick who worked himself into every major landmark event of the Blue Blur’s canon of work like a cringy self-insert fanfiction character. This was made all the worse when he risked the chance of Sonic returning to his own world because he couldn’t live without his spikey companion.

#19: Makoto Itou

“School Days” (2007)

Delusional dimwit deceives a dozen equally daft damsels into doing the downward dog day in and day out despite it dooming his dedicated darling to despair. That about sums it up as far as Makoto is concerned; anime’s ultimate heartbreaker who somehow rolls into one sexy scenario after the other without a care or even a bloody smile on his face. And yet he’s seemingly shocked to his core when he discovers that doing so many women dirty resulted in him getting his comeuppance – or in this instance, several stabs to the gut.

#18: Kazuya Kinoshita

“Rent-A-Girlfriend” (2020-23)

Harem protagonists are a dime a dozen. Sometimes they’re bland. Sometimes they’re fun. Sometimes they’re gigachads. But we argue there is only one that is truly reprehensible. And that’s Kazuya. Sad and lonely like the rest of us, Kazuya’s delve into renting out girlfriends leads to a barrage of romances, drama and awkwardness that is the furthest thing from endearing. He’s pathetic in his approach to love, the way he clings to old flames, how he handles his obvious attraction to Chizuru, as well as his never-ending spiral of lies. We have Rentaro now, we don’t need the likes of Kazuya anymore!

#17: Bondrewd

“Made in Abyss” (2017-22)

He only appeared briefly in flashbacks, so how did this armoured White Whistle’s infamy skyrocket overnight? That answer lies at the bottom of the Abyss, wherein he tricked two orphans to take part in his experiment and sent them both plummeting to the lowest level, all to observe the effects the curse would have on their bodies – even if it killed them. With Nanachi left as a fluffy ball of regret and Mitty melted into an agonising glob, we’ve still hoping Reg shoves his Incinerator up Bondrewd’s tail hole one day.

#16: Sugou Nobuyuki

“Sword Art Online” (2012-20)

Whether he’s jacked into Alfheim Online under the guise of Fairy King Oberon, or roaming the outside world as some suit, this guy remains one of the gaming world’s biggest scumbags. Thinking himself a god given his higher stats, there’s nothing that Oberon won’t do in order to get what he wants, including stringing up Asuna and attempting to assault her while making Kirito watch. Even after getting his ass kicked he still refused to slither away, attempting to stab Kirito back in the real world, only for him to once again get pathetically owned, by a teenager no less!

#15: Shinji Matou

“Fate” franchise (2006-)

Kind of impressive that in a series that features child murderers and narcissistic emperors, Shinji was the one who managed to make fans blood boil. Maybe it’s due to how pathetic he is. Flaunting his superiority when in truth he’s the weakest participant in the Fifth Holy Grail War, the only thing more infuriating than Shinji’s ego is his attitude towards women. Abusing Sakura, making unwanted advances at Rin, it’s no wonder fans were happy to see him get his comeuppance on many occasion.

#14: Mahito

“Jujutsu Kaisen” (2020-23)

What’s one positive thing we can say about this curse? We loathe him to our very soul – so I guess that means he’s doing a good job as resident villain! Sadistic and apathetic to the lives of mortals, Mahito takes immense pleasure in physically and emotionally torturing our beloved cast of sorcerers on a regular basis. Whether he’s killing innocents or acting like a troll, Mahito is all too easy to hate. Made all the worse by his unshakeable belief in himself as he commits atrocity after atrocity.

#13: Julieta Juris

“Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” (2015-17)

She swept in at the last second to steal the glory, and as a result catapulted out of our good graces. Unlike her superiors, Julieta didn’t establish herself as a morally gray antagonist fighting for a cause, but just came across as a wishy-washy side-chick with a ridiculous amount of plot armor. The fact that she was the one who beheaded Mika and Barbatos after they had already died from overexerting themselves was just the bloody cherry on top. We’re guessing she was meant to be someone we could mellow towards over time, but in the end she was nothing more than a blight on a stellar sequel season.

#12: Minoru Mineta

“My Hero Academia” (2016-)

While some may have warmed up to this grape’s constant perverted actions and sole goal of becoming a pro-hero so he can get lucky with the ladies, but there’s no denying there’s a firm sect out there who think Mineta is the worst thing to happen to U.A High since their security system. He may have proven himself to have the potential to go all the way, but you can bet that he will take whatever deplorable means necessary just so he can get a peek at some skin. Peeping through into the girls’ changing room. Nearly climbing into the girl’s hot springs. Mineta’s quest to get his purple salad shaken is never-ending.

#11: Kettle

“Vinland Saga” (2019-23)

In spite of being a slave owner, for the most part, Kettle painted himself as a decent person. Sure, he had massive insecurities over his supposed legacy as a great warrior and the fact he had an obsession with Arnheid was a bit uncomfortable, but at least he was good to Throfinn and Einar. And then his true colors were revealed. Enraged over the notion that Arnheid had tried to flee, he beats her to near death, then sends the residents of his farm to their doom in a hopeless battle against the invading Canute. Kettle is a weak man masquerading as strong, and his pride brought immense grief to those least deserving of it.

#10: Nina Einstein

“Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” (2006-08)

Before we saw this genius student get intimate with table-kun, it was pretty clear she had an intense prejudice against the Japanese… and things got a lot worse once she had a mental breakdown. Following Princess Euphemia’s demise, Nina snapped, deciding that the obvious thing to do to get her revenge on Zero would be to try and blow up the school, as well as help develop weapons of mass destruction that would go on to slaughter many. Yeah, bet Euphe is real proud of you Nina…

#9: Akainu

“One Piece” (1999-)

For the sake of justice, no sacrifice is too big. That’s the creed of this admiral, whose list of accomplishments pretty much epitomize the dark side of the World Government. Killing civilians just to snuff out a single criminal? Using propaganda and deception in order to cover up their own horrendous actions? Akainu stands by it all. Kind of scary that a man like that is now running the Navy. Of course, nothing can compare to the time where he murdered Ace right in front of Luffy. That pretty much cemented him as the most hated figure in all four oceans.

#8: Tetta Kisaki

“Tokyo Revengers” (2021-23)

Don’t you just hate it when an incel gains the power to manipulate time? Well, that’s essentially Kisaki. A loser in life whose rejection by Hina sends him to manipulate timelines for his own benefit, only to be thwarted each and every time by Takemitchy’s own timey wimey antics. Seeing everyone as an object, he’s a master manipulator who’s just desserts couldn’t come soon enough given all the horrendousness he put Toman through across countless scenarios in alternate realities. Thank goodness for Truck-kun.

#7: Danzo Shimura

“Naruto: Shippuden” (2007-17)

There’s no shinobi that doesn’t have blood on their hands, but they really can’t compare to the deceit employed by this power-hungry geezer. The way he manipulated his fellow ninja so as to secure himself the position of Hokage, the way he collected Sharingian in order to increase his own power, all the bullshit concerning Itachi and the massacre of the Uchiha clan, this war-hawk was a criminal mastermind unto himself, whose ambitions had a terrible habit of screwing over our favorite characters. Thankfully, it wasn’t anything a Chidori couldn’t fix. Thanks for taking one for the team Karin!

#6: Rachel

“Tower of God” (2020-24)

We knew it was coming. We knew something had to happen, after all, the internet wouldn’t be crawling with the hashtag “F” Rachel if Bam's treasured companion didn't pull a shady stunt. We just didn't expect her to do...that. With the Administrator's Test coming to a close, a weakened Bam celebrates with his wheelbound beloved over how they succeeded and could climb the tower together. At least until she promptly stands up, pushes him out of the Shinsu bubble, and sends him plummeting into the depths below, all out of a twisted sense of jealousy so she can become a star. Welcome to the shit list Rachel.

#5: Seryu Ubiquitous

“Akame ga Kill!” (2014)

Speaking of justice-obsessed freaks. While she might seem all bubbly on the surface, this high-ranking member of the Jaegers lives to deal out death. Viewing all enemies of the Empire as nothing more than villains in dire need of being destroyed, it doesn’t take much to flip her kill switch, wherein she goes from sweet to psycho in a heartbeat. Her twisted beliefs go so deep that even when she finally met her match, she still believed herself to be doing what’s right. It’s just a damn shame she took so many of Night Raid’s best members with her.

#4: Gabi Braun

“Attack on Titan” (2013-23)

We will say right off the bat – that Gabi might just have one of the greatest redemption arcs in anime. And that could only be accomplished if her initial characterisation earned immense scorn and vitriol. Indoctrinated by Marlyean propaganda, Gabi fashioned herself into the ideal child soldier, despised those of her own race, and most damningly of all – killed fan-favorite character Sasha. From there, it was a painful walk to righting past wrongs, with many unable to find it in their hearts to forgive her even to this day.

#3: Griffith

“Berserk” (1997-98)

No one can deny the White Hawk’s charisma, strategy and drive. He was the perfect foil for the likes of Guts, with noble ideals accompanied with a ruthlessness that almost put him within reach of his dream. This just made his eventual betrayal all the more soul-shattering. Willing to sacrifice his comrades in exchange for divinity, the moment Griffith made his now iconic deal with the devils known as the God Hand, he cemented himself as one of the most hated traitors in the whole medium. We won’t deny that his descent into villainy was masterful, but damn it if we don’t despise him for it.

#2: Shou Tucker

“Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (2009-10)

He may not have swallowed God, committed genocide or any of the crap that Father and the Homunculi pulled over the course of the series, but we just can’t un-see the horror of the Sewing Life Alchemist revealing a talking chimera with complete jubilee. A chimera made by fusing together his own daughter and her dog. It’s a chilling display of inhumanity that continues to haunt the Elric brothers well into their search for the Philosopher’s Stone, further illuminating how alchemy can be used for the most insidious means. Oh how we wish Tucker could have received a few more fullmetal punches before Scar zapped him.

#1: Myne

“The Rising of the Shield Hero” (2019-23)

It’s almost unparalleled how this princess managed to inspire so much pure, unadulterated hatred within such a short amount of time. Along with her coward of a father, Myne’s plan to discredit and ostracise Naofumi has involved her falsely accusing him of rape, interfering in his battle with the Spear Hero, framing him for her sister’s kidnapping, as well as your standard assassination attempts. Selfish to the core and with no moral compass to speak of, Myne shows no sign of letting up on her atrocious deeds, but we’ll take Raphtalia stabbing her in the back for now.
