Top 10 Influential YouTube Personalities: REDUX

To YouTube…. And beyond! Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Influential YouTube Personalities. For this list, we’re looking at the most influential people on YouTube, taking into account their impact on directing the platform’s content, the influence they hold over their fans, and of course their social reach outside the platform. Thus, this ranking is not based on subs or income levels. There are actually TONS of creators we’d have loved to include, so if we left any off you feel should be here, let us know in the comments.

#10: The Gang at Dude Perfect

Top 10 Most Popular YouTubers You May Not Have Heard Of

Brothers Coby and Cory Cotton along with friends Garrett Hilbert, Cody Jones and Tyler Toney make up a collective that focuses on sports-related entertainment – mainly elaborate trick shots and stunts – as well as comedy. While they have 38 million subs – making them the eighth highest subbed channel on YouTube and the most subbed channel in the United States – their brand extends beyond the YouTube sphere, as they recently had a video sponsored by the National Football League as part of its Super Bowl 53 festivities. That video, by the way, pulled in over 12 million views in just two weeks. Not bad for a bunch of college roommates…

#9: Jenna Marbles

Top 10 Hilarious Jenna Marbles Moments

You know you’re much more than a YouTuber when you've got wax figure at Madame Tussauds in New York City. This feat alone makes you a full-on celebrity and cultural star. So, we think all Jenna’s hard work has paid off since her first video was uploaded in 2010, seeing as she’s about to crack twenty million subs, three billion views, and has … you know… a freaking actual statue of herself! That’s not all though, as she’s an entrepreneur as well, having her own line of dog toys, hosting a show on Sirius XM, and even having an executive producer credit next to her name. The question should be: is there anything Jenna Marbles CANNOT do? No. There isn't.

#8: Rhett & Link from Good Mythical Morning

Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal have carved out quite a nice little corner of YouTube for themselves, employing the variety/talk show format and making it work outside mainstream TV. Their act is now in its fifteenth season and has garnered over five billion views, landing them a few guest-spot appearances alongside Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” to boot! The duo has also hosted some big time guests on their show from outside the YouTube sphere, like Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods from WWE, musical act Linkin Park, and comedian Bill Hader. They also have a secondary channel called Rhett & Link that has an additional 4.5 million subs but is rarely updated.

#7: Lilly Singh [aka Superwoman]

Why DID NBC Hire Lilly Singh?

Miss Singh’s list of accomplishments are so vast, and her influence so great, that we honestly don’t know where to begin. So, let’s start with the fact that she has two YouTube channels, which combined total close to 17 million subs and over three billion views. But, she’s also a BOSS outside YouTube, wearing multiple hats such as musician, actress, filmmaker and a major influencer on Instagram. Then, in March 2019, it was announced that Singh would be getting her own talk show on NBC. This will make her not only the first woman to host a late-night TV show in 3 decades, but also the first bisexual woman of color, and specifically of Indian origin - born in Canada no less - to do so. Her shelves are so full of awards that we wonder if she’s even able to keep them all, what with her MTV Fandom Award, two Teen Choice Awards, multiple Streamy’s and a People’s Choice Award. Oh, and did we mention her first book was a New York Times bestseller?

#6: Ryan Higa [aka nigahiga]

Also in:

Top 10 Memorable Moments From Ryan Pyle Tough Rides

Ryan holds a crazy impressive YouTube stat: he was the most subbed Youtuber for almost two years between 2009–2011, which gives him the second longest reign at YouTube’s peak – behind PewDiePie, of course. That in itself is a huge accomplishment, but Ryan’s comedic chops and other talents have translated to ventures outside the small screen as well, such as a K-Pop group, his own production company, as well as a feature length film, two shorts and a starring role in 2016’s horror movie “Tell Me How I Die.” What does he do in his spare time? Well, he writes, records and films parody songs too! This guy is a machine!

#5: Jeffree Star

Also in:

Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Jeffree Star

Jeffree Star has been around for a long time now, first gaining notoriety on MySpace and having a successful, although brief, music career. He’s explored many avenues – such a modeling – while continuing to reinvent himself throughout the years. As for YouTube, he’s been beyond successful, sitting at over twelve million subs and one billion views. But, this is just one of his many talents – his makeup brand Jeffree Star Cosmetics has the fashion world talking, and has Mr. Star at the top of his game both publicly and professionally. He also really doesn’t care what you think of him either, which no doubt makes his authenticity so endearing to people all over the world.

#4: JackSepticEye

Jack has been doing YouTube thing 2012, when he started regularly uploading gaming content in the form of Lets Plays and vlogs. But, like other YouTubers on this list, Jack’s reach extends beyond the platform, as he’s been recognized for his charity work in which he’s used his stardom for good – along with other Tubers such a PewDiePie – to raise money for children in need and suicide prevention. He’s also helped raised money for disabled gamers to make video gaming more accessible. This big-hearted, E-celebrity has turned more than a few heads in mainstream media as well, leading to him being able to play the “Deadpool” video game with its star Ryan Reynolds.

#3: Markiplier

Markiplier, Mark or Markimoo is another YouTuber specializing in video game related content that is not limited to the platform that gave him his big break. While he’s certainly no slouch on YouTube, his resume of doing other things is quite impressive. He’s been on the board of comic book publisher Red Giant Entertainment since 2014 and will even have his own comic soon, he’s embarked on stand up comedy tours, has been on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” played himself in “Smosh: The Movie” and even signed with talent agency William Morris, suggesting big things ahead. To top it off, he’s something of a philanthropist too, using his talents to raise a ton of cash for charities in the process.

#2: Shane Dawson

Also in:

Top 10 Cutest Shane Dawson & Ryland Adams Moments

If you thought the other people on this list were busy, get a load of Shane Dawson: YouTuber, author, actor, musician, director, sketch comic. He’s best known for his YouTube presence where his timely docu-series and hyped conspiracy theory videos have made his channel one of the hottest on the platform – and a channel other YouTubers regularly watch. But, he’s successful in many other areas as well, being a two-time New York Times Bestselling author along with directing, producing and starring in his own feature-length film “Not Cool.” He doesn’t show any signs of slowing down either, as he just won the People’s Choice Award for Best Social Star of 2018. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: Yuya James Charles Brave Wilderness Tyler Oakley

#1: Pewdiepie

You knew it! Despite controversy relating to the alleged anti-Semitic content in some of his videos, PewDiePie’s presence on the Internet itself is something that continues to boggle the mind. We mean, it was only in November of 2018 that he had seventy one million subs and by February 2019, he was at a whopping eighty four! How… does… he… do it? Well, when you’re taking in over three million views on an average video, you’re likely to command some attention, get people talking and clicking that subscribe button. His “Battle of YouTube” with Indian entertainment giant T-Series was one of the most talked about stories of 2018, and with both channels sitting at eighty nine million subs as of March 2019, it's certain that Pewds will continue to stay in the news cycle for awhile..
