#10: Everything She Posts on Social Media

Top 20 Normal Social Media Posts with Disturbing Backstories

Social media was made for people like Aubrey Plaza. That is to say, people with acerbic wit and no filter who don’t mind stirring the pot for the enjoyment of the masses. Her Twitter and Instagram feeds read like the ravings of a mad woman and we totally love it. Some of her greatest hits include Tweeting at Barack Obama to “COME OVERRRRRR,” posting a pic of herself creeping on people and pretending to be a witch at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter; and harassing Anna Kendrick with pictures of Hillary Clinton. Her unique approach to social media is perhaps best personified by her twitter handle @evilhag.

#9: Her “Hot Ones”

No matter who interviews her or how probing the questions are, there’s no cracking Aubrey Plaza’s deadpan demeanor. Well, maybe spicy hot sauce-covered chicken wings can do the trick. Or not. On this “Hot Ones,” Aubrey Plaza regaled us with tales of scaring Adam Scott with a toilet goblin on the “Parks and Rec” set, as well as which props she stole after her time as April Ludgate. If you want to hear Plaza do an Adam Sandler impression, set the scene for that time she hugged the giant Jeff Goldblum statue, or intentionally snort milk up her nose, then this is the video for you. You could say this interview is her greatest performance yet - tears and everything. RIP, Grumpy Cat, RIP.

#8: When She Was a Guest Judge on “RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars”

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” and its spin-off series “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” both regularly feature celebrity guest judges. From Lady Gaga and Vanessa Hudgens to Raven-Symoné and of course, Aubrey Plaza. The latter appeared in the season two episode “Family That Drags Together” and kicked things off by describing how happy she was to be there… in a hilariously morbid way. Upon being introduced, Plaza quipped, “This is the best day of my life. I’m killing myself tomorrow.” Never one to mince words, Plaza clearly enjoyed her time on the show… maybe a little too much.

#7: When She Told Ellen DeGeneres About Her Royal Dog

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Candid Royal Family Moments

Aubrey Plaza stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2018 to discuss, of all things, curling and dogs. In true Plaza fashion, the actress delves into an extremely dry yet humorous description of practicing the ice-based sport with her boyfriend. The conversation then does a 180, with DeGeneres asking Plaza about her dogs; one of which is apparently Dutch royalty. Yes, you heard that correctly. According to Plaza, her dog Frankie is a Kooikerhondje, a breed of dog that became popular with Dutch Royalty in the 17th and 18th centuries. In Plaza’s words, Frankie is a “royal ghost dog” that belongs in a castle. Hey, when you’re a one-of-a-kind actor like Aubrey Plaza, you need a dog to match!

#6: When She Discussed Her First Meeting with Donald Trump

Also in:

Top 10 Viral Moments of 2023

Aubrey Plaza once tweeted a picture of Donald Trump holding a young boy and standing next to someone in an elf costume with the caption “When I First Met Donald Trump #me=insidethatnoddytheelfhead.” The picture, which clearly needs more context, finally got some when Plaza sat down for an interview with Stephen Colbert in 2016. The late-night talk show host produced the photo, leading Plaza to launch into a story about how she used to work as an event mascot in New York City. At one particular event, her job was to get a picture next to the future US President. Clearly, she succeeded… though not in the way you were probably expecting.

#5: When She Showed Us the Last Thing on Her Phone

While promoting their film “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,” Aubrey Plaza, Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine sat down with WIRED for a “Last Thing on Your Phone” interview. The castmates were asked to show things like the last picture they took and the last text they sent. Naturally, Aubrey Plaza’s phone housed the most tantalizing information. One of her last internet searches was “How to hide a body” and her most frequently used emojis included a skull and a fried egg. All three of these celebs are naturally funny and the content of their cell phones reflected this. However, we gotta hand it to Plaza, whose phone perfectly encapsulated the kind of person she is.

#4: Her 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards Monologue

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Things to Happen at Awards Shows

As the name implies, the Film Independent Spirit Awards are an annual celebration of the best in indie filmmaking. In 2019, Aubrey Plaza joined the ranks of A-list comedians who’ve had the privilege of hosting the show; and she did not disappoint. Xref She kicked things off with a star-studded opening skit that saw her teaming up with the likes of Sharon Stone, Marisa Tomei and Christina Ricci to “reject commercial cinema” and “banish shitty sequels and lazy reboots.” Things only got better once Plaza had the stage to herself. Her deadpan delivery and willingness to go after everyone and anyone made her an ideal host. We can only hope that she gets the chance to do it again in the near future!

#3: Her ASMR Video

Also in:

10 HILARIOUS Gordon Ramsay Moments

ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. In layman’s terms, it’s a unique physical sensation one feels on the scalp, neck, and spine that can be triggered by whispers, ambient noises and other auditory and visual experiences. Lately, ASMR videos have been cropping up all over YouTube, with Aubrey Plaza taking part in one of her own in 2018. As part of a series of videos for W Magazine intent on exploring the phenomenon, Plaza spent more than 30 minutes whispering, texting, and eating into highly sensitive microphones. The result is equal parts funny and weird; which is actually a pretty good way to sum up Plaza herself.

#2: When She Got High with a Couple of Nuns

Also in:

Top 10 Hilarious Tom Brady Pop Culture Moments

In 2017, Aubrey Plaza sat down with the self-proclaimed “weed nuns” to smoke dope and talk about why they’re not your average Sisters. While Plaza was there to promote her movie “The Little Hours,”, a parody about nuns in the 14th century, she was also there to learn more about the Sisters of the Valley, a California business that sells marijuana-based products. While the nuns have no affiliation with the Catholic church they do adhere to their beliefs in chastity, ecology, and activism. Plaza gets high, trims a bud, and dives deep into what it really means to be a weed nun. For more of Plaza smoking weed on camera, check out her interview with Doug Benson on his podcast “Getting Doug with High.” Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: When She Played Out a “50 Shades of Grey” Scene with Matthew Perry When She Taught Us How to Be Petty (& Dangerous) Her “Audition” for Catwoman The Story of Her “Dirty Grandpa” Audition When She Answered the Web's Most Searched Questions

#1: Her Fake “Daria” Trailer

Also in:

Top 20 Most Ridiculous Sports Mascot Moments Ever

In a bittersweet, yet spot-on piece of casting, Aubrey Plaza played Daria in College Humor’s fake trailer for a live-action version of the MTV animated comedy. The show was about a cynical, dry humored yet intelligent teenager named Daria that initially aired between 1997 and 2002. While fans of the show were disappointed to learn that the trailer wasn’t real, they couldn’t help but cheer for Plaza’s portrayal of the character – who’s personality mirrors the actor’s in so many ways it’s creepy. This is one live-action adaptation of an animated series that we wouldn’t mind seeing on the big screen.
