8 Times Sweet Tooth Appeared OUTSIDE Twisted Metal
“Hot Shots Golf 2” (1999)
The “Hot Shots Golf” games have already seen a handful of PlayStation characters join in on the golfing fun. “Hot Shots 2” was the first game in the franchise to kick off this tradition, and Sweet Tooth was among the first of the guest golfers. Unfortunately, Sweet Tooth’s stats aren’t the greatest. He boasts excellent power and control in his swings, but don’t expect balls to bounce or spin as much. Even worse, as you can probably tell from the video, this is the “Twisted Metal III” iteration of Sweet Tooth. Honestly, we would have preferred the weirder original version from TM1.
“War of the Monsters” (2003)
Though we will forever remember Incognito Entertainment for its debut game, “Twisted Metal: Black”, we often forget about “War of the Monsters”. This was another PS2 gem from the company where players could fight each other while wreaking havoc in various cities and towns. But did you know that one of the monsters doubles as a secret guest character? Agamo has a secret fourth costume that allows you to play as a mecha version of Sweet Tooth. However, you cannot access this through normal means. You must have a save file for “Twisted Metal: Black” on your PS2 to unlock this skin.
“PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale” (2012)
“Twisted Metal” got a ton of love in “PlayStation All-Stars”! We had Black Rock Stadium as a stage as well as miniature versions of Mr. Grimm and Dollface to cheer us on the sidelines. As for our main man, Sweet Tooth, developer Superbot Entertainment pulled all the stops! Our psychotic clown came with his trademark machete, chainsaws, molotovs, shotguns, missiles, and, the ultimate Level 3 Super of all time, SWEET BOT! What’s funny about this outing was that co-creator David Jaffe himself confirmed this crossover’s place in “Twisted Metal”. At the end of TM12’s credits, we were told “Sweet Tooth will return in the fight of his life!” According to Jaffe, this was in reference to “PlayStation All-Stars”. Do you know what that means? It means PaRappa is canon to “Twisted Metal”!
“Starhawk” (2012)
If you played enough of “PlayStation All-Stars”, you probably got a glimpse of a very peculiar costume for Sweet Tooth. What’s with all the green fire? Well, this is a skin Sweet Tooth was given as a means to promote the oft-forgotten 2012 PS3 gem, “Starhawk”, and very, very few players got their hands on it. See, “Starhawk” didn’t exactly sell gangbusters. Neither did TM2012. And the only way you could play this bizarre iteration of Sweet Tooth in “Starhawk” was if you had pre-ordered “Twisted Metal”. What’s worse is that this skin is only usable in “Starhawk’s” online multiplayer mode, which is no longer active. And so, Sweet Tooth’s appearance here only lives on in the form of YouTube videos.
“Team Fortress 2” (2007)
In all honesty, Sweet Tooth doesn’t actually appear in TF2. So, why is it even on the list? Well, TF2 has a seemingly never-ending wardrobe of costumes for each of its nine character classes. For the Pyro, you can equip a pair of white and red polka-dot pants and a clown mask that looks eerily like Sweet Tooth. We know it's not official, and there’s no flaming hair to accompany the Pyro, but the names of these two cosmetics - Fire Tooth and Flavorful Baggies - tell us this is absolutely a nod to “Twisted Metal”.
“Payday 2” (2013)
Speaking of games with masks for cosmetics, “Payday 2” features a wide range of masks to acquire and deck out your character with. But in 2014, PlayStation 3 players got an extra special mask for their character. For a limited time, PS3 players were able to download Sweet Tooth’s own mask. Unfortunately, this was the only time you could get it. Even though “Payday 2” was brought to PS4, Sweet Tooth’s mask was not brought along with it. Why you can no longer get it is a mystery, and with “Payday 3” flubbing its launch and “Twisted Metal” having little relevance in gaming in 2024, we doubt Sony is going to revisit this brief, yet neat crossover.
“ModNation Racers” (2010)
If you remember Sony’s long-forgotten kart racer, you might remember an interesting promotion that was run to boost pre-orders. Depending on where you ordered your copy of “ModNation Racers”, you could receive exclusive karts and drivers based on PlayStation characters. After launch, more PlayStation characters were added to the game, and among them was Sweet Tooth. In addition to having the psychotic clown as a driver, you could also drive the TMB version of his ice cream truck with his machine guns equipped! The guns don’t work, unfortunately, and because the game is no longer listed on PSN’s storefront for PS3, none of the DLC is purchasable anymore, not even dear Sweet Tooth.
“Rocket League” (2015)
Do you play “Rocket League” on PlayStation? If so, then you most likely have the legendary Sweet Tooth truck! If you don’t, don’t worry - it's super easy to unlock it! All you have to do is win an online match with the Merc, Venom, and Gizmo vehicles. You’ll even get Sweet Tooth’s wheels, boost, and clown head to equip onto your other cars! As for the truck itself, customization is very, very limited, and despite crossplay support, “Rocket League” players on other platforms will see Merc instead of the famed ice cream truck.
