Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock) was born on November 26, 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. She is a Grammy award winning American Singer and sometime actress, and is referred to as the “Queen of Rock and Roll”.

She was raised in Tennessee but her family soon moved to St. Louis which is where she met Ike Turner, a pioneer of rock and roll. They started working together in 1958 and were married in 1962. A coincidence led to Tina recording a version of “A Fool in Love”, which was very well received and even crossed over into the top 30 of the pop charts. Soon Ike and Tina were performing under the name of the “Ike and Tina Turner Revue”, and on their way to recording a string of hits.  

During the mid 1970s the Revue started to lose steam and Ike and Tina’s personal lives were taking falling apart and their marriage deteriorating. After numerous beatings Tina left Ike with nothing more than 36 cents and stayed with friends while in hiding.  Her divorce was finalized in 1978 and she left the marriage with no money or property, just her stage name which Ike had given her.  

The 80s would be the decade that Tina made her comeback and became more famous than ever. She released her first solo album, Private Dancer, in 1984 and it became an enormous success with hits like “What’s love got to do with it”, and went on to becoming one of the best selling albums of all time. She went on to release 2 more albums in the 1980s and established herself as one of the biggest musical acts on the planet. 

Throughout the 1990s she moved her career into semi-retirement and now relaxes at her numerous homes in Europe. She has also sold more concert tickets than any other female performer in history.
