Nicole Mary Kidman, was born on June 20, 1967 in Honolulu Hawaii. Her family moved back to her parents native Australia when she was 4 years old, where she lived until she was a young adult. She began acting at a young age, and eventually studied at the Phillip Street Theatre where she majored in voice production and theatre history. Her first appearance on film was in 1983 in a music video and then she began acting in Australian television and films including BMX Bandits, and Bush Christmas. 

Her biggest break came in the 1989 thriller called Dead Calm, which gave her a lot of exposure in the United States.  Her American debut came in the blockbuster Days of Thunder starring Tom Cruise, which ended up with her in a high profile relationship with Cruise himself which lasted 10 years. She went on to star in many successful films with her most successful year being 2001 where she was nominated for best actress in the film Moulin Rouge.  The next year she won the award for a film titled The Hours, where she portrayed Virginia Woolf.

Kidman is also very public in her support of numerous charities and causes. She has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Australia and has raised awareness for disadvantaged children around the world.
