Jennifer Lynn López was born on July 24, 1969 in The Bronx, New York.  At the age of 16 she began financing dancing and singing lessons for herself.  She left college after one semester and decided to focus on singing and dancing, while working at a legal office to pay the bills. She went to many auditions and finally landed a gig as a dancer for various rap artists music videos. That soon led to a job as a regular as a “fly girl” on the comedy show In Living Color.

It was here that Lopez’s career took off, first in acting, and then in music. She landed a few good film roles, with the most attention paid to 1998’s Selena.  It was for Selena that she was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, and where she became the first Latina actress to earn over 1million dollars for a film role.

Her career really exploded when she released her first recording album in 1999 called On the 6. The album reached the top ten in the Billboard 200 and had 3 hit singles. Her second album, Jlo, was also a massive hit and debuted at number one on the charts.

She also has started a very successful clothing line, Jlo, complete with accessories and has also dabbled in the perfume industry with her own fragrance, Glow.

She is one of the most successful celebrities to be able to combine both a film and a music career, and she’s still Jenny from the Block.
