Travel Guide: Vieux Quebec, Quebec City
Founded in the early 17th century by Samuel de Champlain, Québec City is unique in North America in that it is the only city north of Mexico to have preserved its ramparts. Today, the city is surrounded by almost 3 miles of fortification, as well as a citadel, gates and bastions. The city is separated into the Upper and Lower Towns – the most famous tourist attractions are found in the Upper Town, while many historical attractions are located in Lower Town.
