Puccini's Opera Gianni Schicchi
Composed by Giacomo Puccini, Gianni Schicchi is a comedic opera based on Dante’s The Divine Comedy. It is not the composer’s most frequently performed opera; he is also the mind behind such masterpieces as La bohème and Madama Butterfly. Gianni Schicchi is part of Puccini’s Il trittico, a triptych of one-act operas that had its premiere performance in 1918. The opera is notable for its aria O mio babbino caro, a piece that has since become a part of popular culture.
