The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, or UNICEF, was created in 1946 following World War II in order to help children around the world whose native countries had been ravaged by the war. The organization has evolved to help children and women internationally in terms of health, education, safety and equality. With a presence across the globe, it is striking to note that this foundation is funded solely on voluntary donations, and not with funding from governments or the United Nations.
