Video Game Classics: Captain America Super Soldier

Some games will live forever as Classics. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be taking a look at 1991’s coin-operated Arcade brawler Captain America and The Avengers.

Developed by Data East, this popular Marvel superhero action game debuted in the arcade, before being ported to several home consoles, including the SNES and Sega Genesis.

As the game opens, players learn that the Red Skull has used his considerable wealth and sinister mind-control device to command the most evil super villains on Earth. Using them as his own private army of terror, and threatening to use a laser located on the moon, Captain America and the Avengers have been charged with stopping the Red Skull from taking over the World.

Making your way through the game’s five levels of mind-blowing action, 2-4 players can choose to play as either Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye or the android known as Vision.

Together, gamers make their way through various side scrolling areas by using martial arts, wielding objects around them as weapons, and making use of their individual special powers and skills.

Not just a brawler, this game adds a large amount of variety with the inclusion of various flying and shooting sequences. Not only that, but it featured cameos by other Avengers, and various iconic comic villains. These include Sentinels, the Mandarin and the Juggernaut.

The most popular video game to ever star Captain America, it continues to be a major source of nostalgia from the early 90s. It remains as equally compelling and entertaining as the comic book characters that it features.
