Recipe: Coca-Cola® Cake

Though it started out as a form of medicine, this beverage is one of today’s most popular soft drinks. We’ll be showing you Coca-Cola®’s recipe for Coca-Cola® Cake.

Ingredients:

CAKE:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups small marshmallows
- ½ cup butter or margarine
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup Coca-Cola®
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

FROSTING:
- ½ cup butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 6 tablespoons Coca-Cola®
- 1 box (16 ounces) confectioners' sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

1. After preheating the oven to 350°F, sift together the sugar and flour in a bowl. Then, add the marshmallows.
2. Now, mix together the butter, oil, cocoa, and Coca-Cola® in a saucepan.
3. Bring that to a boil on the stovetop, and then pour it over the dry ingredients and blend it together well.
4. Next, dissolve the baking soda into the buttermilk just before you add it to the batter with the eggs and vanilla. Mix that together well.
TIP: If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can always use milk. For a half a cup of milk, add about a half tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice and you’ve got buttermilk in about five minutes.
5. Pour your mixed batter into a well-greased 9-by-13-inch pan, and bake for 35 to 45 minutes.
6. While that’s cooking, make the frosting. In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa and Coca-Cola®.
7. Bring that mixture to a boil, and then pour it over the confectioners’ sugar, making sure to blend it well.
8. Next, add the vanilla extract and pecans.
9. Once the cake is finished baking, remove it from the oven and frost it immediately.
10. Let it cool, and finally cut it into squares and serve.
Though the recipe for Coca-Cola® remains a heavily-guarded secret, it can also act as an important ingredient in a number of delicious dishes just like this one.
