7 Things You Should Know About Dragon Age 2

The epic action role-playing game series returns! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be taking a look at Bioware’s Dragon Age 2 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

Number 1: A Story Within A Story

Featuring a non-linear framed-narrative, Dragon Age 2’s story is told through the interrogation of Varric The Dwarf, who witnessed your character’s rise as a Champion.

During the course of his interrogation by a Seeker named Cassandra, you will discover more about your motivations and origin, including how your actions eventually brought the world to the brink of war.

Number 2: The Plot

Partially overlapping with the events of the first game, Dragon Age 2 takes place across a span of 10 years, and begins with the destruction of the town of Lothering by the Dark Spawn’s Blight.

As a result, your character becomes a Rogue whose family was murdered, and decides to make his way to Kirkwall in the Free Marches, north of Ferelden. From there you must choose a path that will make you a legend, either heading on a path toward becoming a kind ruler, or a ruthless despot.

Number 3: Character Customization

Unlike the previous game, the sequel takes a more linear and detailed approach to the narrative. As a result, players will be unable to change race, but can once again select the gender, appearance and class of its main protagonist. And unlike the previous installment, this new hero is not a silent protagonist, meaning that you will hear him or her speak frequently.

Number 4: Two Ways To Play

Further separating the sequel from the original is the use of two distinct ways to go about playing the game. Now, instead of exclusively having to pause and play in order to strategize and issue, you can now take on the adventure like you would a traditional Action RPG. Playing this way will allow you to adjust your strategy on the fly without much down time during heated battles. Regardless of your choice, you can easily switch between the members of your team.

Number 5: Combat and Weapons

Designed with improved gamepad functionality in mind, the sequel adds new auto-attack functionality. This allows you to select which maneuver you’d like your character to perform as soon as he comes in range of an enemy.

While many of the weapons and abilities will be similar to those found in the previous installment, there is an increased emphasis on the use of melee weapons, rather than placing most of the attention on magical attacks.

Number 6: Dialogue Wheel:

When speaking with characters in Dragon Age 2, you will have the choice of five “Investigate Options.” This is similar to the layout found in BioWare’s other popular epic Mass Effect 2.

As you may expect, your dialogue choices will lead to countless outcomes that will determine your relationship with the game’s many character. Not only is a romantic relationship possible with many of the people that you meet, but also their emotions will be further made clear by an icon that illustrates the tone of their response. These icons symbolize snarky, aggressive, peaceful and romantic reactions.

Number 7: Imported Game Saves and DLC

Adding another layer of depth in the title is the ability to import your save information from Dragon Age Origins and Awakenings. While this will not directly impact your character, your previous decisions will affect the world around you.

And as always, there will be downloadable content in the form of side-quests and the special guest appearance of Isaac Clarke from Dead Space 2 as a playable character.

Conclusion:

Available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC; this epic sequel by Bioware expands on the already popular franchise, while taking it in a new more theatrical direction.
