Popular with skiers, snowboarders and other winter sports enthusiasts, the Rocky Mountains are a magnificent piece of Canada's landscape. The Canadian Rockies are in fact quite different from their American counterpart: their appearance is more jagged, and are – on average – lower in elevation than the American Rockies. The Canadian Rockies are also home to a group of national parks, referred to as the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage site. Marked as a Heritage site in 1984, the grouping includes such parks as Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho.
