Top 10 Celebrity Love Triangles

Two is a company, three’s a crowd… even in Hollywood. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Celebrity Love Triangles.

For this list, we’re taking a look at famous couples that were involved in cheating scandals, rumors, and a whole lot of drama.

#10: Bella Hadid, The Weeknd, & Selena Gomez

Model Bella Hadid and singer The Weeknd started dating in 2015. Things seemed to be going well for the couple, especially after appearing together in the music video, “In the Night.” Alas, they split up in November 2016. While reportedly still good friends, they just couldn’t work around each other’s busy schedules. A couple months down the line, The Weeknd was spotted kissing fellow singer Selena Gomez in Santa Monica. Photos of the two quickly went viral online. After that, it didn’t take long for Bella to unfollow Selena on Instagram. What makes this even more uncomfortable is that Selena and Bella’s sister, Gigi, are both part of Taylor Swift's Girl Squad. Does this mean a squad war is inevitable?

#9: LeAnn Rimes, Eddie Cibrian, & Brandi Glanville

The year... was 2009. Actor Eddie Cibrian was married to reality TV star Brandi Glanville and country singer LeAnn Rimes was married to backup dancer Dean Sheremet. Then… Cibrian and Rimes starred together in the Lifetime made-for-television movie, “Northern Lights.” News eventually broke that the costars were having an extramarital affair. The two separated from their spouses and both divorces were finalized in 2010. Later that year, Cibrian and Rimes got engaged, officially tying the knot in 2011. This sticky situation sounds like something right out of a soap opera. Actually, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Lifetime made a movie about the affair, especially since Glanville wrote about it in her bestselling book, “Drinking and Tweeting.”

#8: Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe, & Abbie Cornish

In “Cruel Intentions,” Ryan Phillippe’s Sebastian found himself in a love triangle with Reese Witherspoon’s Annette and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Kathryn. The same year that movie came out, Phillippe and Witherspoon ironically got hitched in real life. In 2006, however, the couple announced their separation, officially divorcing the following year. It also came out that Phillippe was dating Australian actress/rapper Abbie Cornish. Rumors started circulating that Phillippe had been cheating on Witherspoon with Cornish, which allegedly caused the divorce. In any case, Witherspoon has since moved on, marrying current husband Jim Toth, whereas Phillippe and Cornish broke up in 2010.

#7: Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid, & Russell Crowe

Remember Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid? The two first co-starred in the comedy, “Innerspace,” before falling in love while shooting the thriller, “D.O.A.”. They became husband and wife in 1991, staying together for almost a decade. In 2000 however, Ryan began a romantic relationship with Russell Crowe on the set of “Proof of Life”. To be fair, Quaid had reportedly been unfaithful to Ryan over the years, so the 2001 divorce announcement came as little surprise. Since then, Quaid has moved on with a new wife, Kimberly Buffington. However, the two announced their divorce in 2016. Crowe went on to marry his on-again, off-again lover, Danielle Spencer, only to separate in 2012. As for Ryan… she was romantically linked to John Mellencamp from 2010 to 2015.

#6: Claire Danes, Billy Crudup, & Mary-Louise Parker

While they never married, Billy Crudup and Mary-Louise Parker were in a committed relationship for several years. Then in 2003, Crudup left Parker. No big deal, right? People are allowed to fall out of love. Except… she was only a couple months away from giving birth to their son, William Atticus Parker, and Crudup wasn’t just leaving, he was leaving her for actress Claire Danes, his co-star from “Princess Mononoke” and “Stage Beauty.” Talk about a bad PR move. Their relationship wasn’t meant to be either, however, as they broke up in 2006. Parker would go on to write about Crudup’s affair, albeit indirectly, in her memoir, “Dear Mr. You.”

#5: Shania Twain, Mutt Lange, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, & Frédéric Thiébaud

Apparently, record producer Mutt Lange was immediately drawn to Shania Twain upon hearing her music. After speaking to each other on the phone for about six months, the two finally met in person and got hitched shortly thereafter. While that might sound like a classic love story, their marriage took a few unexpected turns. In 2008, the couple separated when Lange allegedly became romantically involved with Twain’s best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Lange and Twain divorced in 2010, but matters only got juicier from there. Throughout this ordeal, Twain grew closer to Marie-Anne’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud. They married in 2011 and are still together. Talk about a truly bizarre love triangle… or love SQUARE, in this case.

#4: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, & Rupert Sanders

In the “Twilight” movies, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson played star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward, and later the co-stars started dating in real life. Like Bella and Edward, however, their relationship hit a rough patch when another guy entered the mix… and we’re not talking about Taylor Lautner. In 2012, Us Weekly released photos that revealed Stewart getting awfully close to “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders. Although Sanders and Stewart both issued apologies for the affair, it couldn’t save their relationships. Stewart and Pattinson soon broke up while Sanders’ wife, Liberty Ross, filed for divorce. Some loves just aren’t meant to last a thousand years.

#3: Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher, & Debbie Reynolds

Following the death of her third husband in 1958, Elizabeth Taylor entered an affair with singer Eddie Fisher. At the time, Fisher was still married to Debbie Reynolds, who was also close friends with Taylor. This earned the adulterers plenty of bad press. Taylor was labeled as a “homewrecker” while NBC pulled the plug on Fisher’s TV show. Nevertheless, Fisher and Taylor went ahead and married in 1959, shortly after his divorce from Reynolds. To this date, their love triangle remains one of the most infamous celebrity scandals in Hollywood history. The infidelity didn’t stop there either– Liz would eventually leave Eddie for her “Cleopatra” costar, Richard Burton, but that’s another story.

#2: Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, & Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is no stranger to love triangles. She started dating future husband Billy Bob Thornton not too long after he broke off his engagement to Laura Dern. Jolie and Thornton’s marriage officially ended in 2003. Just a couple years later, Jolie and Brad Pitt seemingly fell in love on the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston came to an end soon after, causing a media frenzy. While they wouldn’t wed until 2014, Brangelina dominated as Hollywood’s ultimate power couple for over a decade. In 2016, the couple separated and Jolie filed for divorce -- though the following year, it was rumored that the couple might not be calling it quits after all. In response to Brangelina’s breakup, Aniston simply responded, “Yeah, that's karma for you!”

#1: Prince Charles, Princess Diana, & Camilla Parker Bowles

The British royal family has faced their fair share of scandals, but Camillagate arguably takes the cake. In the early 70s, Prince Charles dated Camilla Shand, who later became Camilla Parker Bowles. Several years after their relationship ended, Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. There was still a spark between Charles and Camilla, though, and it was eventually revealed that the two were having an affair. This is allegedly one of the main reasons why the Prince and Princess of Wales divorced in 1996, just one year before Diana’s tragic car accident. Charles and Camilla became husband and wife in 2005, following years of will-they-won't-they tension. Queen Elizabeth II gave this union her blessing, although she didn’t attend the civil wedding ceremony.
