Top 5 Shocking America's Next Top Models Stories: Where Are They Now?

If these stories are any indication, then perhaps becoming a model isn’t the best career choice. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 5 Shocking America's Next Top Models Stories: Where Are They Now?

For this list, we’ll only be looking at former ANTM contestants who left a lasting impression during their Cycle; models who achieved success only to see it slip away in the ensuing years.

#5: Angelea Preston

Preston is a two-time ANTM contestant, having appeared on Cycles 14 and 17 respectively. However, it was during her time on the latter that controversy reared its ugly head. Preston was abruptly disqualified from the show after it was uncovered that she had briefly worked as a paid escort to support herself between the two cycles. The model was not only one of the shows three finalists, but had allegedly been crowned winner before the producers chose to revoke the title. Preston claims that the show knew about her work beforehand and that it wasn’t a last minute discovery. Despite this, Lisa D’Amato took home the victory while Preston lawyered up.

#4: Lisa D'Amato

Speaking of D’Amato, she’s arguably one of the most memorable models to appear on the show. Her outspoken demeanor, strange antics and radiant beauty made her an instant hit with fans; but less so with the judges, as she was kicked off during cycle 5’s 10th episode. In the years that followed D’Amato struggled with drug addiction, but thankfully the L.A. native sought treatment for her vices and turned her life around. D’Amato then went on to win ANTM’s cycle 17’s all-star season. Unpleasant circumstances aside, it made for one hell of a comeback story. She’s since also gotten married and has two kids.

#3: Jael Strauss

During her 8th cycle stint on the show, Strauss impressed the judges on a number of different shoots but was ultimately eliminated in episode 9. Unfortunately, that’s not the low point of this story. In the years following her time on ANTM, the former model found herself caught in the grip of a terrifying meth addiction. Her life began to spiral out of control and soon enough, she was strung out and living on the streets. Thankfully, things took a turn for the better after she took part in an intervention on “Dr. Phil”. Strauss is now reportedly sober and getting her life back on track.

#2: Renee Always

Alway, who went by last name DeWitt during her time on the show, was noted for her fiery demeanor, extreme competitiveness, and beautiful blond locks. She was no stranger to the modeling world when she auditioned for ANTM’s 8th cycle, having already appeared in a number of different publications. However, things took a dark turn in 2013, when she was arrested by California police following a reported 6 hour standoff with a SWAT team. The former model was charged with drug possession, burglary, fraud, and a number of other offences. She was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
