#3: Deadpool 2 Has Finally Found Its Cable

Finally! The rumours and speculation have come to an end! The Hollywood Reporter broke news that Deadpool 2 has found their cable in Josh Brolin. As The CineFiles have reported previously, Pierce Brosnan and Michael Shannon were closely linked to the project, with Stranger Things’ David Harbour and even Brad Pitt being rumoured for the part. But in the end the No Country for Old Men star proved to be the official pick. Sources close to the newly inked deal are saying that Brolin is now locked in to a four-film deal. Cable, the son of Cyclops and Maddie Pryor, will be Brolin’s second crack at a Marvel character after currently portraying Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

#2: The 2017 Cannes Film Festival Lineup

Yup, Cannes has done it again. The prestigious French festival recently divulged their lineup, and the films included are some highly anticipated ones. Celebrating it’s 70th edition of the festival, Cannes announced that 49 films will be featured from 29 countries. Known as a fest that pushes the boundaries of cinema, they also announced that 12 of the films are from female directors, while nine will come from first-time feature filmmakers. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the announcement is revealing the competition films, which include Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck, Bon Joon-Ho’s Okja and Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, just to name a few. In addition to the In Competition section, the festival is famous for their Un Certain Regard section and will even premiere the first two episodes of David Lynch’s long-awaited revival of Twin Peaks.

Before we get to our final pick, here’s what’s coming out this week:

“The Lost City of Z” (2017)

“The Fate of the Furious” (2017)

#1: Thor: Ragnarok Breaks Some YouTube Records

The new Thor: Ragnarok trailer shattered more than just poor Mjolnir. After being released this Monday to overwhelming acclaim from fans, the trailer broke not only the Marvel record, but also the Disney record for most YouTube views in 24 hours. With over 136 million views in its first day, the Ragnarok trailer put itself ahead of Disney’s remake of Beauty and the Beast, which raked in 127 million and Marvel’s previous record holder Captain America: Civil War, with 94. The Norse God couldn’t quite earn the top spot overall, as the remake to Stephen King’s It has amassed 197 million views in its first 24 hours. With Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett playing villain Hela and Thor facing off against The Hulk in a Guardians of the Galaxy-esque trailer, Thor: Ragnarok seems to have most of the ingredients needed for a successful film.
